Well,.. I have just broken off another screw on my ABU 6601. That makes 2 of the 3 now broke. So I tried to pull out one of the shafts that hold the frame together. Couldnt seem to budge it, and ended up ripping both the ends off the stupid thing. So,….
#1-Do those "shafts" even come out?
#2-Other than Mikes, where can I find a new frame(811710)?
#3-Any tips how to fix this, I cant be the only one thats ever broke or stripped a screw on these things.

What exactly is happening there Kid? It doesn't sound like anything I have had in my years of Abu abuse… I definitely have some lefty frames laying around though

Im just over tightening those little side plate screws. Its my fault. Now I think I do need a new frame because I tried to pull/punch out one of the shaft things and ripped both ends off. That shaft didnt seem to budge!
I believe Mikes has new frames for like 57 bucks + shipping. I would rather find a good used one cheap because Im not sure that reel is working properly anyway. ??

Ahhhhh,… one of the many joys of muskie fishing,…. tearing up reels and rods every season.

I dont think the "shafts" have a number. I think they are included as part of the whole frame. I cant pull them out either. I already wrecked both ends on one "shaft".

Yer right, those "shafts" are part of the frame (part #811633) in the 6600 C3 diagram I have. You can get a new frame from Haterasss Outfitters but you might be better off just dumping the reel if it likely has other problems, too.

As for an amature's diagnosis of the root problem, well, it's possible that you've way overlubricated the reel and so your screws don't stay set. If so, I bet your drag system is a pain, too, and you have to wrench totally down on the star to get enough drag to set a hook. I only use Ambassadeurs 'cause they're cheap and I can fix them. In fact, I mostly use those 6000AB series anti-backlash models that everyone hated. They're always like-new for dirt cheap. I remove all the anti-backlash parts and rebuild the reel with a new thumbar, Smoothies, second wormgear bearing, etc.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Ranger. Thats what I feared. 😡
I opened it up for some cleaning and lubing but when putting it back together I overtightend and broke-off a screw head. That made 2 broke on that reel as I have done that before. DUM,..DUM,…DUM!!!! [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif]

PS- the frame I need is #811710 anyone???,….anyone????

Okuma Induron 400, I have two and use one more than the other. What's happening is every once and awhile when I cast my knuckle will hit the slide for the bait clicker and it sure dosen't sound good when it goes out, I don't know what I'm starting to fry on the inside of this, It's starting to make noises once and awhile. I sure wish they would have put that farther up on the reel, never done it on a Abu. So what am I starting to fry on this reel?

My guess is the "clicker" cog thing is worn. That wouldnt make your reel make noises once in a while UNLESS the shavings and particles are working their way into a bering or something?

We all must remember, And I think It was my buddy Mike S that taught me this(gotta give credit where its due) Those clickers are ment for a quick rip,..rip thats it. If we cast lures out,or reel them in with the clicker on its working 100 times more than it should be.
I due understand your doing it by accident. Keep in mind you are like most spartians,..all thumbs!! Try to be a little more carefull when casting thats the best advise I can give ya. [smilie=nutkick.gif]

Hmm… I'm not so sure about that. Maybe if you're trolling with a reel that is meant for casting and/or if you are actually making hundreds of casts with it on. BUT if you are using trolling reels there isn't an issue w/ keeping that turned on when you let a lure out or while fighting a fish. I perfer for someone to keep it on when fighting a fish because the sound lets me know what is going on.

Yes, Im refering to a "casting" type reel w/clicker. And specifically ABU's
with that plastic or nylan cog #23403.
