I just purchased a 8' Muskie Innovations Rod and wanted some input of what reel to purchase. Im looking for a reel that I can Cast with all day comfortably but I'm wanting to only spend around 150-200$. I have Shimanos on my other rods and was wondering what peoples inputs are on other brands of reels. Thanks, Brad

If you look for deals, you can get great reels in that price range. For gen. purpose 5.1:1 ratio is good, and I have had good experiences with Diawa Luna 301, and just picked up a AG Revo Toro 61 with 5.4:1. Luna is round, Toro is low profile, so try them both for comfort. For Jerkbait, I love the Shimano Curado 300 DSV with 6.3:1 ratio. I would also consider the AG Revo Toro HS in the 6.4:1.

I personally have not found the magic reel for burning bucktails. i have an Avet, but struggle to get used to the lever vs a thumb bar.

I'm mostly throwing bucktails and crankbaits. But I also jig Bondy Baits because alot of my fishing is in the Detroit River. Thanks for the info I appreciate it.

I agree with Chad and would recommend a reel with a 5.1:1 or 5.3:1 ratio as that seems to be a good speed for what you want.

Calcutta 400b for that price range you are looking for.
If you want to save a few extra bucks, Okuma Akena
If you want to spend a little more, Calcutta 400 TE.

I have a 400b. It has 2 1/2 seasons on it now. I've spent $25 on routine maintenance, and that's it. I think it's the ultimate best all-around reel. I can throw anything from bass sized spinners to Pounders with absolutely no problems. I don't even think I've ever had a backlash with it. I even throw double 10's with it every now and then if I'm not burning them. My next reel will be another 400b.
