I have heard from my father-in-law that a lake that he lives on is stocked with Tigers. He has been saying it for a couple years now, and I recently heard from another person in the area the same thing. So I am wondering how I can find out if this is true, and how many, and for long they have put them in there.
They are a series of smallish lakes, connected to one larger 120-ish acre lake, that are completely private and have no access other than by association members. I can only imagine that they were advised by someone to rid themselves of overpopulated bluegills and bass, and this would help…but who knows
Anyhow, if there is any resource for this, I would be greatful

If done under permit then it would appear on the fish stocking database. The only water in Michigan to get tigers in the last ten years is Dean Lake in GR.

Ive seen that a few times with the private planting with permits, and it hasn't shown up on that list. But then again, pettit lake in Newaygo gets walleye every couple years and doesn't show up. It is also a private no access lake, so I am wondering if that is why it doesn't show up on the list???

Yep, that makes sense I should have read your initial post better. If it's 100% private the only people that may be able to answer is the lake association (if there is one).

There are many permits issued for private pond/lake fish stocking every year following established protocol of disease and restricted list fish. In pass years I know of two persons that brought in illegal grass carp for their ponds falsely listed as catfish from southern states (pre Asian carp). The Feds and states have clamped down hard on that practice.

So after contacting a few people I have found that they planed 300 tigers in this lake, and had also done so 5 years ago. So my next question is how fast do they grow??? I was under the assumption that they grow faster than pure strains, but I have not seen a growth chart to give me any other ideas. Anyhow, how old do you think a 5 yr old (so next season 6 yr old) tiger would be???
I'm kinda excited about targeting these fish because I can almost gaurantee they have never seen anything but bass lures

The best I can tell you is that the growth rates are faster than a female pure strain. I would expect 5 YO to be 38-42". Max lifespan in most Michigan waters is about ten years, some less, some more.

When are we going????

hahaha! I am working on permission to use the boat launch whenever I want, without my father in law! I have promised CIR, and to teach the guy in charge how to catch them if he does the same thing…so we shall see

J p, I say you gotta talk then into letting us have a cash tournament there. We take half the profits and pay them for letting us use the lake. It would be an awesome time!

Damn, my new goal in life is to have the funds to live on a private lake…Just from bass and walleye fishing on a private stocked lake I can tell you those fish are 100% easier to catch than other lakes….I can only imagine musky fishing…
