I have heard really good things about a handful of expensive brands, but still can't see myself spending $100+ on polarized glasses. I use cheap ones from gander and see really well and will see fish some other people won't It might just be because of my height giving me a better angle into the water, but I don't have a problem seeing fish at all. When buying higher priced glasses, I think you are paying for a better product overall (better frames, more comfortable, last longer, etc) and not so much for some better polarizing lens that will let you see 10' deeper into the water than your berkleys.
I use Oakleys, and I get mine wholesale, but you can find them on ebay for less than $100. I love them. They fit my head the best, are light and the lenses are great. I've got them in Amber, Shallow Blue, Deep Blue and a couple other colors I don't use much.
I've also used Costas, Smith's, and a few others and have landed on Oakley….then I found my wholesale source and it made them more affordable.
Kill two birds with one stone…. By an Abu Reel for $239 or up and you get a free pair of Wiley X polarized shades. There $130 retail and very good. I fan usually see much better in the water than most. They are very comfortable and durable. I bought a Revo Winch and got a great pair of glasses at no cost. It takes a couple weeks to process and deliver but totally worth it. You can choose from two styles of frames and lenses. So far I've gotten two pair of Wiley X sunglasses at no cost and impressed at what I can see in the water column.
I agree that there is a big difference in the more expensive glasses. Like Jim said, the UV protection is great. i used to use the cheap 30 and under glasses and still had a lot of eye fatigue by the end of a day because of the glare.
I also notice that color is very imortant. The solarbat mossback has been suggested already, two others I like are smiths polarchromic copper (which changes tint in different light conditions like transitions lenses) and also a new one I just got is Maui Jim's Maui HT, its very similiar to the solarbat mossback and is good in bright conditions and great in the evening and low light. I wore them on murray the other day and with a little brown tint to the water and over cast skies , i could see everything extremely clearly.
