If anyone knows a source please pass it along. I looked at what Knipex makes and couldn't find anything that would work. I too would rather pay $30-40 one time than have to buy a new set each year because the old ones are so rusted. Knipex does make a pair of 11" channel lock type pliers that would work great.

I can get MAC, Snap-On, Craftsman, etc etc extended reach needle nose pliers straight or offset, long hemostats straight and curved and screw/bolt cutters through work if there is anyone interested.

Yep.. anything medical isn't going to be long enough because there's no need to reach into something because a scalpel takes care of anything in the way.

I think Knipex must make some but I can't find them anywhere…

That's an awesome deal for stainless steel!
That's a good price for something nice!
That's pretty cool. Hemi rules!
Good job, Hemi. You're no Femi!
If I was on my toes, I would've bought those!
If you pass that up, you're a schmuck!

Ok. I'm done.

I got a 2-pack 11" pliers (straight & curved tip) on sale at Harbor Fright, 28 St, Wyoming, but they are not stainless.

I have these and use them all the time IMO the absolute most jaw force in any plier ever.

<url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]
tool=all&item_ID=15559&group_ID=749&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog"><link_text text="[Permission to view this media is denied] … ir=catalog">[Permission to view this media is denied]
tool=all&item_ID=15559&group_ID=749&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

I also have the compound jaw extended needle nose and a pair of 16 inch needle nose, the problem is that the jaws are too long and that causes them to be flimsy when trying to grab a hook and remove it by rolling. If you take a long pair and grind down the jaw to around an inch this exponentially increases the lever force on that jaw area and decreases the surface area for higher psi gripping strength. Stainless is a great material for rust resistance but it is quite elastic in terms of metal structure hence the flexibility of the longer pliers. The ones listed above will also cut through nearly any hook made (have not found one they wont but they may exist)

Looking at the jaw construction of these
<url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]
tool=all&item_ID=15591&group_ID=762&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog"><link_text text="[Permission to view this media is denied] … ir=catalog">[Permission to view this media is denied]
tool=all&item_ID=15591&group_ID=762&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

you can see the difference between a gripping plier and a needle nose which is for fine low torque work.

These are incredible cutters that are easier to use inside a fishes mouth or gill plate area than short wide opening compund cutters

<url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]
tool=all&item_ID=51311&group_ID=763&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog"><link_text text="[Permission to view this media is denied] … ir=catalog">[Permission to view this media is denied]
tool=all&item_ID=51311&group_ID=763&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

Finally there are linemans pliers which are wider and waaaayy stronger in the jaw area that allow for a great grab on a hook and lots of side rolling action with no lateral give in the jaw whatsoever

<url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]
tool=all&item_ID=15563&group_ID=750&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog"><link_text text="[Permission to view this media is denied] … ir=catalog">[Permission to view this media is denied]
tool=all&item_ID=15563&group_ID=750&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

Hope this helps
Kevin

BTW:

I took the needlenose pliers I have now and drilled a ~3/16" hole through the end of one of the handles, put a keychain split-ring in it, and tied that to a lanyard. The lanyard is part of the release tool pouch I bought at last year's banquet.

Highly recommend, to keep it out of Davy Jones' locker, especially if you get one of those pricey pairs. The last thing you want to have to do is explain to SWMBO why you need yet ANOTHER pair of $60 pliers! [smilie=biggrin.gif]

I'm still bias to the cheaper long needlenose pliers. We use them for processing the body cavities of of turkeys and chickens on the farm. We did over 250 turkeys for T-Day and straight or curve tip is personal preference. I like the curve tip for larger pike.

Saw a pair of 11" bent stainless needlenose at the West Marine in Lansing yesterday for $10. They were West Marine brand, and aren't listed on their web site. They were in with the fishing stuff.
