Too far, more like 50-100 feet as long as you aren't cutting them off. You could get within 50' as long as you give them a wave, I'm sure once anyone sees that you're just getting a photo and not fishing over the top of them they will not have a problem. I think you should have to wear your orange MDOT vest though!
