I actually use an old digital camera with a 10 second timer and then mount it to the steering wheel using a flexible tripod similar to the one here – <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]

I grab the fish, hit the timer, get in position, and then wait for the picture to be taken. If I want to measure the fish, I do that quickly after the picture is taken. With a measurement the entire process takes about 15 seconds.
Taking solo photos are pretty easy.. you can use your smart phone..
All you need is a tripod for a smart phone you can find them on Amazon.. then just set a timer.
Most phones do 10 or 15 secs
I usually grab the fish while in the water.
Hit my phone to start timer then pull the fish out for the last 7 secs then measure and release..
Fish is out of the water for no more than 15 secs..
