I've seen quite a few idjits speeding on Ovid, and not just the big-boat bass guys with their 300s. If you find out how to report them, let me know…

Hemi, seen the same thing at Hudson the last two times, they go screaming out from the dock. The only good things is by the time I caught up with them, someone already told them and they went into no-wake mode. Steve

Of course you all know the RAP line 1-800-292-7800, and if you would like to tip off a CO prior to a violation, like before the next bass tourney, you should be able to contact the district supervisor. For Ovid it is:

Lt. Jane Gordon
Shiawassee Field Office
8562 E Stoll Road
East Lansing MI 48823
Phone: (517) 641-4903
E-mail: ** you do not have permission to see this link **

DISTRICT 8 Counties of service: Branch, Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Shiawassee, Washtenaw

I strongly urge you all to use the RAP line in situations like Ovid or in any other place in Michigan. If you call the local CO and they're off, there could be no action taken. If you call the RAP line a warm body on duty will get notified.

Can you outline what happens when a complaint is made, and what info we need to provide when making a complaint? I presume the offending boat's registration number is needed, at least….

Of course the CO's need to catch it in the act, so while MC #s will may be valuable, it is not necessary if the CO is able to witness it.

Let me clarify that the personal contact info for the Lt. in Ovid's district would only be used ahead of time, so that they may plan to have a CO on Ovid on the Thursday night of a bass tourney, for instance. Poppy is certainly correct that the RAP line should be used if you are witnessing a violation!!!

You are better off to call the clinton county sheriff dept. they will send out a marine officer.
The officer must witness the vioation there is also a diffrence in high speed boating and no wake rules. those are two diffrent things.
Rap is designed for fish and game vioaltions. You call them I gurantee they are going to tot it to the local sheriff dept.. So cut out the middle man and call the Clinton county Sheriff dept direct.

Maybe you could give him a boat ride if he would go for it?

According to the Clinton County website… "Currently, the department's equipment consists of a 14 ft. aluminum boat with a 25 hp outboard motor, boat trailer and associated equipment."

I had a meeting last night with the under sheriff and Det. Sgt Sandberg. They are going to have one of the Deputys over their. So watch your speed over their going from one spot to another. And the road in and out of the park. No Steve I'm not going to be their Thusday night to watch it. I've gotta work for the Sheriff Dept. over at Ovid-Elsie thus, fri, and Saterday nights this week. So don't be out drinking and driveing over that way this weekend. [smilie=ballchain.gif]

There was another bass tournament at Ovid last night, and the start-off at 6:00 pm sounded like Friday night at Spartan Speedway. Every one of them was going at least 10-15 mph, both at the start, and every time they moved. Maybe that's as slow as a 300 hp outboard can go? 🙄

Later, during the storm, we got stuck with them under the awning at the boat rental shack by the launch. It was their weigh-in spot for the night… They'd seen us out there fishing for 'skis (the head honcho was nearby when I pulled up the pike) and most of them had a story how they'd caught a 'ski with their bass tackle or how a 'ski had come up and snatched a bass right off their lure as they were landing it. It was patently obvious they had little love for muskies or respect for muskie anglers.

It took all my self-control to keep from telling them off about speeding on the lake, but I expect I'd just end up with my car being vandalized in the parking lot some day. I half-expect it anyway…

Since you and Jim have both witnessed this please contact Tim at the park office. I'm wondering if they even have a use permit for holding the tournaments… If they do, breaking the rules can get the permits recinded or not issued any longer.

One person that can't read isn't a big deal but 20 guys that know better is a problem.
