Hi guys,
I have been emailing Will about something called Operation Muskie that has been started by some of the guys in the muskie community. The link below gives some details on what they are trying to do but basically they are trying to take some Vets muskie fishing for a few days. They are asking for any donations that people are willing to offer and we thought it might be nice to send them some new baits from the MI Muskie Alliance. Will had asked that I post this request and if you are interested in helping out some of our vets please let us know.
We were thinking that if some of the guys from MMA would donate some new baits (preferably unopened) that we could mail them to the organization collecting the money, equipment and baits necessary. Please advise if you would be interested in participating and there would be two ways to collect these baits. The first and easiest way would be to bring the baits to the Lake Ovid event and the other way would be to mail it to the address listed below. I am planning to participate and I think that our Veterans represent the heart and soul of our country and they deserve a warm welcome home for their service.

Count me in! Do they need one thing more than another? Money over baits? If we want to send money, do they have a PayPal account we can use. If it is baits, what do they need? Please let me know. Thanks, Jeff.
I will email them those questions and I have included a copy of the email exchange I had with them below. I will advise when I get an answer back from Doug.

We appreciate the kind words about Operation Muskie. We feel that it's the least we can do for our Vets. Sure hope the muskies are understanding and
put on a good show for the boys.
As far as what you can do most folks are just sending money, although lures would also be appreciated. We will need to buy gas, food, licenses,
and some rods, reels, and lures for the troops. Pure fishing has donated 10 rod and reel combos, but we are planning on purchasing another 10. I understand that some of the guys are fairly experienced Muskie fishermen, but some aren't and probably don't have much in the way of tackle or lures. I would guess that a little exposure to Muskie fishing will get a few more of them "hooked" and they will be using the equipment several times in the future.
I don't know if you have seen the web site that has been created, but check here. <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]

This will give you more information on the event and some information on where to send things.
If you need anymore information please let me know and I'll be glad to fill you in.
Thanks much for your help.
Good luck on the muskies!

Subject: Operation Musky
Doug,
I am a member of the Michigan Musky Alliance and we saw what you guys are doing for Operation Musky and wanted to know what we could do to help? Please advise on what items you are still looking for and we will see what we can come up with. I have cc'd Will Schultz (President of MI Musky Alliance) and please let us know what you guys need and we will talk to the guys in our group to see what we can do. This is a great cause and you should be proud of what you are doing for our veterans. I have attached a link to our site and we look forward to hearing back from you.

Here is the response from Doug:

I guess that almost any known Muskie lure has caught a Muskie on the LOTWs. During the time that we'll be doing Operation Muskie (early August)
It's usually a big bucktail/jerkbait/big spinnerbait/big crankbait bite with surface bait working at times (I guess that about covers every type of lure know to man). I guess the key word is big although I remember getting a dandy 53"er a couple of years ago on a little black and silver Vibrax, so who knows! Colors are in the mind of the caster, but the water is dark and bright colors seem to work well. The outing will be held from August 5th-8th, so any lures should be here before then. It would be good to send any lures directly to the Bay store Resort. Here's their address.
Bay Store Camp
P.O. Box 21
Oak Island, Mn 56741
Use the postal service or UPS as Fed-X doesn't get here very often.
I do have a verified PayPal account set up (my own, not Operation Muskie) and to my surprise it actually worked. I can't quite remember off hand what we had to do but we had a donation from England that went through this account without a problem. I transferred the money to my account and then we wrote a check to Operation Muskie. If anyone wants to do this let me know and I'll figure out how we did it last time. It seemed to me that the PayPal charges where quite high something around 5%.
Thanks for any thing the MMA can do. Sounds like the Vets are all lined up and ready to fish. Even sounds like the event will be filmed by
"The Next Bite" so it should be an interesting time for all. Sure hope the Muskie cooperate as well as the good folks who are donating.
Thanks much!
Doug Johnson

Doug,
We are working on getting together some donations from MMA and we had a couple of questions for you:
1) What type of baits are you looking for and do you have any color preferences?
2) When will you need the baits/donations?
3) If someone wants to donate money do you have a Paypal account setup?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Ed Alzapiedi
