Thought we might talk about opening day traditions. Mine involves a football twist. Being a big Dallas Cowboys fan I always wear a C-boys sweatshirt and listen to the draft on my boat's sirius radio. Nothing better for me than listening to the picks while fishing for my favorite fish. For some reason I always start the year with a white bucktail.
Does anyone have any other traditions?
-Must have meal
-Must wear cloths
-Must fish bait
-Must fish lake
-Must have boat partner
A tradition I don't really care for is that I always forget something. Last year it was the camera, the year before that it was not putting the plug in the boat. Yeah, I had to pull the boat back out and let it drain with about 8 guys waiting to get on the water behind me.
I wanted to crawl in a hole and die. So hopefully everything will go good and I will end that tradition on Saturday. Good luck to everybody.

We have recent tradition. It happened on accident. My wife (thinking she was being funny threw a pair of her underwear in my duffle bag. I was heading out of town for the opener and found them as I was unpacking many hours later. When opening morning came I shoved them in my pocket thinking it would be great laughs to jag around with. Fishing was slow that morning so I whipped them out and blessed the boat (similiar to the Pope and whatever he is doing.
Well…..it worked like a champ. Ten minutes later we were catching fish. Although, it may have worked for everyone. Some guy in a different boat, out walleye fishing that morning, caught a 40 inch spotted muskie. In the process of releasing him, he asked us to take a picture. Of course we were happy to do it, but as we motored over to his boat, he looked at me with a weird look. We took the pic, congratulated him and drove away. It was then, I remembered "Oh yeah, I put those over my hat. No wonder that dude is staring at me like I'm weird."
Now they go with me on all my fishing trips. (I must admit I was disappointed on how well they didn't work at Webster this Spring), but they still provided for a laugh. For all your enjoyment I have enclosed the pic. Rob is a great photographer!

I try to think of a new swear word to use the entire day…

I know one tradition I don't care to hold onto. Last year, on the first fish, I found that the screws that hold my net hoop to the yoke were loose. Upon netting the first fish, the hoop slid out resulting in Matt having to net the fish with 2 hands, one on either side, leaning waaaay over the boat. So everyone– check your screws! You may have a loose one! [smilie=bangtard.gif]

Umm… why is it that you guys always try to blame your wife or girlfriend when your friends find your lucky underwear? The first step is to admit they're yours…

I have a tradition of bringing some x-tra grub on opening day. Its
a day to celebrate not just fish. We usually team up with another
boat or two and all have shore lunch together. Some talk, some
grub, a little down time, then back at it. Makes the whole day that
much more fun.
That sounds like a good time! Bring some of that chili and I'll join you!
