OK I've decided to fish Budd lake on Monday Its the lake I'm most comfortable with and can learn my boat control and casting techniques. If anyone would like to meet me message me and we'll set something up. I'm planning on starting the day running double 8's and switching to soft plastics as I get tired lol. I'll throw in some top water to mix it up and finish the day jigging unless something else is moving fish. A couple areas I want to target are a sharp rocky drop-off near the boat launch and the North and South western side of the lake as this is where I expect the newest weeds. Any suggestions would be greatly apperciated.

I'm planning on heading there Saturday. I can give you an update after this weekend. I've only been there once last summer so it will be my first time fishing it in the spring hopefully I can get some type of pattern figured out with limited knowledge of the lake. Anyone have any recent water temps in that area?

I'm clueless as to what the water temp might be, but there is a very good chance that Budd will be warm enough for your blades. But if the predicted cool down happens, there is also a good chance blades might not be the best choice.

No matter what the weather or water temp though, you definitely need some minnow baits and gliders in early season. Twitch-pause kills it, especially in spring!

Duke is spot on… my favorite way to fish in spring. Twitching usually gets it done in spring.

Another vote for twitch and gliders! The first bait I throw is a Bucher shallow raider and my other rod usually has a phantom type lure on it. That being said, I have had years where fish are only interested in smaller spinners and straight cranks like a Moski teardrop.

I love suicks but never fished them in spring. Would these be a good bait? I also got a couple jointed depth Raiders in the box.

Yes suicks should be fished in cooler water more than you would probably throw them in warmer water conditions because of the slow rise and dive on them. And when you get good with them you can do a lot with them.

They can be used in the summer as well, they just work well when the fish are finicky and want something slower
