If he's done he will be greatly missed, he came to the Wings the same year Illitch bought the team back in 1983.

Say it ain't so, Captain…

Can't blame him if its time to hang em up, but man just the thought of that hurts. Bad. There will never be another one like him, the greatest all-around hockey player in my lifetime.

It still amazes me that after all these years he stills find a way to be one of the best players on the ice when the playoffs roll around. I don't think he has anything left to prove. He is leaving the team in good hands. I hope some of the younger guys can become half the leader that he was.

Hmm…

I've never heard it called Basketballtown, heck it even sounds silly.

I think the winged wheelers may see several changes on the team next year. I believe Stevie Y felt this was his last hurrah, as many of us did also, but the team had an excellent chance to go all the way…..Why not, we thought?

The long season took its' toll on the Wings even with their unparalleled success during the regular campaign. I dread the thought that this could be a rebuilding type year. Or is it reloading??

I think Osgood will be going… not Legacy. I really don't think that Legacy played that bad and he is a pretty darn good tender. It's tough for any goalie to hold up to the expectations that Wings fans have.
I wouldn't consider it to be a re-building year. They have a lot of good young guys that will slowly have to take over for Stevie Y, Chelios, and Shanahan.

Maybe it will be Legacy and Jimmie Howard next season with Ozzie out. Who knows, but if it is I don't think it's because Ozzie played badly this season. Looking back, he was essentially as good as Legacy during the regular season and at times better. They both had their ups and downs. The Wings wanted Legacy to step up and be their guy for the playoffs and he deserved that opportunity. I don't think he'll be banished for having less than a stellar performance in those 6 games against Edmonton. Their overall team defense had a lot to do with the dismal result in that series. It also may be that McTavish out coached Mike Babcock. One thing for certain is that McTavish got the most out of his players. Babcock did not for whatever reason. McTavish had a great game plan and defensive scheme devised for Detroit that was effective in several phases of the game.

Look for them to go for a big named goalie, and sign Manny as a back-up. They do not want to rush Howard and feel he needs a year or two more in GR. and don't forget about Stefan Liv over in Sweeden.
Its really too bad to see the captain go out like this, the man deserves much better.
Who knows maybe Grigorenko, Hudler and Fippula can jump in with Hank and Pavel and make everyone forget about Stevie Y. Although I doubt it.

The raedio station just said that Steve will make his decision known
by the end of next week. Personally, I think he'll give it one more
year.
