October is nomination time! If there is more than one person running for a position we need to get ballots out in the November newsletter.

At the last meeting I asked who in their current position was interested in running again. Most people we interested in running again but that doesn't mean you can't run against them. Here's a brief description of the positions:

All positions are elected for a one year term except the BOD.

President – This position oversees all aspects of MMA and is the first line in communication with Muskies, Inc. As such the president may be responsible for filling any position in a time of need/vacancy and may be responsible for outings, tournaments, RVP, Treasurer, banquet, lure swap, etc. I would gladly nominate and support ANYONE willing to take on the position of president – anyone? anyone?
(Curent: Will Schultz)

Vice President – This position only has one real resonsibility and that is to take over the duties of the president if the president can't continue. As a chapter we said long ago that the VP will be responsible for either the fall tournament (now Bruce Memorial) or the Banquet (your choice).
(Curent: Trevor Williams)

Regional Vice President – This position is responsible for representing MMA at the Muskies, Inc. board meetings two times each year. As an RVP you will also be asked to serve on a Muskies, Inc. committee. Travel costs are provided in whole or in part by MMA.
(Curent: Chris Barton)

Secretary – This position is primarily responsible for chapter communication (newsletter, flyers, announcements, etc.) Membership tracking has now become part of this position also since we now have the supporting membership. You need to be familiar with a computer and using Word and Excel.
(Curent: Fred Becchetti)

Treasurer – This position is responsible for keeping track of MMA's money, where it comes from and where it is sent, sending checks and making deposits. This position is also be responsible for filing an annual report with Muskies, Inc. so they can file our taxes. The treasurer must also oversee (directly or through someone they appoint) event receipts, such as – any tournament, fundraiser, banquet, etc.
(Curent: Tom Munson (appointed after Ron Berry resigned)

Board of Directors(BOD)
This is the only two year position.
Board members are the checks and balances to the executive committee. The primary responsibility of a board member is to advise the executive committee on issues under discussion. In some cases board members have taken on additional responsibilities (banquet, outing chair, tournament director) but this is not a requirement. This position is a good way to get involved and learn how things work in MMA. Currently we have two board members and should have at least 4, 6 would be best.
(Curent: Scott Scarpelli and Chad Sandy)

Feel free to contact any of the people in these positions if you have questions or contact me and I can answer any questions. Now is your chance to get involved and DO SOMETHING for the fishery. Some positions may not seem like they have a direct impact but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Every position in MMA is important!

As much as that would please certain people, I doubt anyone will volunteer for the job. I don't understand why… I only spend between 15-30 hours a week on MMA/Muskies, Inc. related e-mails, phone calls, etc.

However, the stuff I spen time on are primarily the DNR initiatives. If someone was interested I would continue to operate as the Preservation-Restoration-Education lead. That would leave a president the time to do what we really need: member retention, member growth, PR, PR and more PR.

I've told a bunch of people that I will probably be president until Tyler can take over.

Thoses shoes are way too big for Me too Wear!!! You are so GOOD at keeping the MMA involved with the DNR and all the other organizations you deal with..ROCK ON BRO!! I remember when we first started talking about creating a Muskie Club here in Michigan ,Bruizer and I wanted to get a club going to promote catch and release then one day we ran into You and Trevor low and behold you guys wanted the same thing and look where we are now WOW. Will, you have taken this organization to levels that at that time where just pipe dreams! You have been the heart of this club pumping each person up too do things needed. It has been a rough road at times but you always smoothed it out one way or another! Bruizer and I made a deal when this all started that both of us would at least run for president . I need to keep that promise to my Fishing Partner whom i miss dearly. I sure wish Bruizer would have at least got the chance to run for President.. anyways sorry if i got off track…Keep up the hard work Mr.Schultz…

Hats off to you Brother!
Thanks for all you have done
Thanks to ALL that have contibuted to this AWESOME Organization

Who is interested?? Board position maybe? We have two board members that stay on the board until next year but we could use a couple more. The board positions might be a good way to test the water if you think you might be interested in an executive comm. position.

PM me if interested.

As long as it is cool that I probably will not be able to attend meetings.

I hereby humbly accept the nomination for a Board of Directors position, and agree to serve if elected.

I would have to echo Dave's sentiments. its not the lackof desire that is the problem it is the physical proximity and inability to attend meetings, especially on a weeknight. Other than that I would be down for it as long as voting can be proxied or attendance could be via teleconference or webcam etc…

"Being there" is more than being at the meetings because in 99.9% of all instances the business needing board input/approval has been discussed at length by e-mail. Once we get business to a meeting the research/discussion is basically over and the issue is explained, a short Q&A then it goes to a vote.

I'm just guessing but I believe our current board members have attended less than six meetings between them this year. This isn't a slam against them at all because their input and guidance has been very important this year.
