Definitely go with a longer rod. So much easier to fish with. Better hook sets, better boat side maneuvers, better control on the fish while fighting them, easier casting, etc. I would wait to see what is at the banquet though as you might be able to get a sweet okuma rod for a good price (even though they are already a good price at retail 😀 ).
