If you haven't started on the main page of the site in a while check it out. There's a better (prettier) version of the header. There's also updated information in the Projects section and Info/Tips.
Hemichemi has been busy updating these pages, not to mention putting up with me and all my opinions on layout (that's what I get for having an art degree).
Thanks Tom for all the work you have put into MMA over the short time you have been a member!

What kind of degree specifically do u have will?
Graphic Design. Worked two years at a newspaper and hated it. Then landed in retail management just to get a job in GR. Retail management wasn't the career I was looking for though because advancement and decent pay required re-location , I wasn't willing (my wife works for the State). Retail did make me realize that I should have been a teacher (I love training people) which landed me in my current job as a corporate trainer.
Thanks guys, and Will. I want the website to look as good as I can make it.
I've been playing with things, too. This is all vector art, rendered here as a GIF:

do u mean by vectorize, just adding it into your .ai file with the Text and the Michigan and rendering it as one file?
And so there isnt any confusion what i meant by vector, is everything is completely flat color, meaning you can resize the image, including the musky image to outlandish resolutions without losing any quality, which is why illustrator is the main format for print, etc.. The reason i was asking cause if the musky was vector, you should be able to resize it to any resolution without it losing any quality. Sorry for posting so much lol, but working in these programs everyday i have deep understanding for all the adobe suite and i know a lot of people use different terminology.
thinkin of makin one with a musky coming around and opening his mouth attacking something and creating the logo around it
We have two logos that are used at this time. The oval original MMA logo, at the top of the page. We also have the MMA-PRE logo as seen on the T-shirt below.

What would be great is to have the original oval logo re-built as a vector graphic w/ and without the words Preservation – Restoration – Education in an arc at the bottom (as it appears on the newsletter).
Beware though… I'll be really picky and probably a pain in the A$$. Like how it drives me crazy that in Tom's design above that the muskie is facing away from the focal point of the design like it's trying to get away from MMA and the state of Michigan.
If you guys or anyone else wants to really get your creative juices flowing, something that would be cool and a possible monetary benefit to MMA are some t-shirt designs that we could put up on the merchandise site. Not just designs that would appeal to MMA members but designs that any muskie fisherman would buy.

Reversing the muskie is trivial; I'll do it when I have time later. (I prefer to think of it as "Michigan is so full of muskies, they're leaping out to get more room!)
The muskie is a VECTOR graphic created FROM a bitmap; everything you see is a filled shape that is scalable without loss of resolution. It can be created from a bitmap easily in AI CS3 or CS4.
Will, do you have the green muskie and the MI map in the logo separately somewhere? I've already re-created everything else as vector…
o gotcha hemi, i didnt realize you traced it down from a bitmap, thought you were just referring that you had brought the image in to illustrator and made it vector i was like uhh.
Will, ill mess around with some stuff when i have time, i dont mind if your picky. Doing freelance and dealing with the brutal criticism from professors over the years it would be fun, and no design is ever perfect until lots of criticism
What I'm getting at is that the MMA oval is our identity. Like it or hate it, that oval logo is and always will be the primary/official MMA logo.

No, not any longer the original art is long gone.
If you look around at some of the other muskies, inc chapters I think our website looks the best!

Is this change already made? Mine looks the same as usual. ??
What change are you talking about? The sponsor, tips and projects pages have new/updated information.

The header on the site is also better quality. I know most people come straight to the forum and miss seeing the actual website. We're going to work on that too. Hopefully soon we'll have the forum built into the website so you can't avoid seeing the available sections.

Ya I was talking about the header with the muskie skin. All the other
stuff is SWEET I just didnt notice anything different with the header.
😯 What??!!!? It's defo mo' betta! [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]
Before, the banner at the top was created to be a certain size and then stretched to a bigger size, making it look fuzzy, jaggy and, well, klugy. We've remedied that. Many wouldn't notice it, but I did. We've also spruced up the sidebar at left subtly (updating the info too, which as of last week still had the dates for last year), reworked the menu design to be more modern on the back end and easier to "fine tune", repaired the link to EVENTS, cleaned up the footer for joining and linking to the MInc site, and like Will said, made massive changes to the INFO/TIPS and PROJECTS pages.
(This is what can happen if you make a tiny "suggestion" to Will… BEWARE!
)
More is coming soon, and if anyone has ideas for improvements, I will listen. (I'm not speaking for Will, though! 🙄 )
