It looks cool, and it seems like they are really trying make everything dummy proof. I just heard that Humminbird is going to one up Lowrance and their next generation will also have structure map and it’s going to be a free software update, and for another $200 you can buy their mini CNC machine so you can carve out a 3D plastic lake models while in the boat. They believe that this will really help those that still struggle to understand contour lines. I almost forgot to mention that the free software update will also include another feature that some are calling the next big revolution in “thought free fishing” it’s an on screen directional arrow so people know where exactly to cast! Ok….for those that know me, you know that I’m just bitter that this is something cooler than what I have now. For Sale: 2 – 898c SI Combos, 1 year old with interlink/com cable – $2300.00…. Ok I’m going back into my hole now.

I think it "look" pretty cool all the way. I'll just say that on LSC, structure scan is of minimal benefit to me. I've used it the last two seasons and I get to see sand and…..more sand. Oh and weeds…..and more weeds…. I've found wrecks and a couple rock piles but nothing that's changed my fishing.

Mostly I use downscan to identify what kind of weeds I'm over. Convetional sonar shows a blob, but downscan shows if I'm over cabbage, reeds, coontail or sand grass. I like that use of it. But on this lake, I keep it turned off (have mine wired on a master switch) most of the time now. If I get stationed back in Kodiak where I'm fishing reefs and massive kelp beds in deeper, complex water, I'd have this on my boat before I headed north. Looks good!

This all resembles a technology demonstration I saw in 2005 of a business jet using a 3D navigation navigation system on approach into a mountainous airport. I have a feeling this will be much cheaper to install albeit same technology driven..WAAS, its a beautiful thing 🙂
