I watched a bob mesikomer video and he could distingquish the smell of weeds from ones that had be holding fish and the weeds that did not hold fish. he did this by smelling weeds he had hooked while cranking a bait in.
When he noticed a different odor on a set of weeds, he then later caught a fish there. Is he a crack head or is there truth to this?
Bryan
I once could tell what my buddy ate for dinner by how his farts smelled.
Kid- oh my god that is too funny
Bryan, I know I am going to piss alot of people off here(sorry cyberlunge), but Bob Mesinkomer is a pompous fool! Did you ever see his fishing show? What is he part bloodhound next thing he'll be laying his ear against the surface to hear muskies. Or possibly he will be one with the muskie force and be able to "sense" them. With wave action and current to disperse scent throughout the lake….. If I had a takle company I'd make a 28" suick rip off and call it the " Mesinkomer" (WORLDS BIGGEST JERK bait)
I'll take the middle ground and suggest the fish prefer fresh weeds. Dead cabbage doesn't have much of a bad smell but the difference between dead coontail (reeks) and growing coontail (fresh) suggests that you concentrate on the newer stuff if you have an option.
On Leech Lake once, I snagged a coontail frond on a Bagley and it smelled strongly of a northern pike, only time I've had that happen. I pegged the Bagley right back there and the northern nailed it.
Yea i am agreeing here, Mesikomer is a tad out there, every fish he landed in the video he would say "its 55" inches if it's an inch" and it looked to be about a 47" and 24lbs… ( 40lbs he said )
he came off a little odd with his way about detailing the muskie in his video as he called it.
i'll stay with Bucher, badfish, in-fisherman, and
my fav, … Lindners Angling Edge ( golden age of musky ) good video
Bryan
I just don't like how his sponsor provided baits are put on as the ONLY thing that will catch a muskie. Everything else is just a waste of time you'd think.
The Angling Edge video is pretty good but they keep things nice and vague. (comparatively)
I really like the angling edge staff and the direction they have headed after leaving in-fisherman. I'm not what I call a religious person, but can appreciate the non hypicritical folks who are. I'm planning to buy there book from Rollie & Helens.
Steve Heiting's video I have is excellent. He is likeable enough, keeps you focused on the video and gives in depth info. His Trophy Muskie Triggers is very good, and I'll probably pick up a few others of his.
Oops this wasn't a discussion about videos. My bad. 😛
