Im not a rich man but we found a way to go a lot. Small car pulling a small boat in most cases. We do own a large gas guzzling fishing boat which uses more gas to pull it to a lake then it uses on the water. We also write off every fishing trip as a test and tune because we are after all a lure company. Will now as a Guide can do the same thing. Every lure, rod ,reel ,line ,clothing, boats, repairs, gas everything.

Salmon lures are very cheap in comparison to musky baits but its the gas and boat size needed to be out there on Lake Michigan all the time that eats up the checkbook. It kind of sucks to burn 10 gallons of gas for three kings ya know?. Mike

Charter captains are also good at writing off all their fun "scouting" trips on the big lake. I was a licensed captain for 12 years. However, nothing beats when I was working for the Devos family how we were taught to really scam the pyramid writeoffs. Today we can go muskie fishing with a potential downline and tell them how to get rich taking their downline friends muskie fishing.

Mike, do you have a kicker on your bigger boat? The most gas I've went through on a Salmon trip is 3.5 gallons! If it is too rough for me it's too rough for the big boats….

John A Dennis 216 fish 2024 points 35 inch average
Maurice Potvin 130 fish 1173 points 34 inch average
J. Dean Davis 115 fish 1082 points 35 inch average
These are the top 3 all from Ohio as of today. I dont think I have ever seen numbers like this from Lake St. Clair this early in the season. If they continue on this pace they could destroy every record on the books except big fish. 😯

My dad is able to write off a lot of expenses, but only for tax purposes which i believe hamilton was referring to. If you have a decent sized charter boat, like over 30 ft. It is extremely expensive.

Sure muskie lures are more money than salmon lures, but with my dad's boat there is a hell of a lot more maintenance etc that goes into all of his equipment.

I am not the biggest fan of big lake fishing, so it annoys me that my dad spent so much money on his boat when we could have a cottage on a muskie lake perhaps where we could do more family oriented stuff

I know it can be very tough out there as I have been there a handful of times and haven't had that great of success, but I still think it is a ridiculous fishery compared to others. Just look at some of the numbers caught on opening day out there; 9 fish caught, 7 for 9, 10 fish boated, etc. You're not going to get those kinds of numbers from the inland lakes. The trolling numbers are unbelievable out there as last year I think a boat caught 45 fish the first day or weekend. That would be a great SEASON for most of the inland lakes.

Well said. I don't post much on here, but do follow the threads. I spend most of my time in Michigan here in the U.P. (some in NE WI) on the inland bodies of water. Totally different game than the numbers that come out of LSC. All of my fish come casting or on live bait rigs. I won the Boundary Waters individual season award last year with 37 fish and average was probably 38". I certainly don't fish every day, but put my time in and was pretty happy with that total. There are some crazy action lakes in WI, but most guys who know what they're doing in this area would be very happy with 20 in a year. 2 in a boat in a day is always a good day. In some parts of WI, trolling is illegal, and on most of our small U.P. lakes, trolling is extremely difficult during much of the year because of weed growth.

Was down on LSC a few weeks ago and turned down 2 days of trolling because I wanted a chance at a big one casting. Just feels like I earned it that way…..the cheeseheads have me brainwashed into the casting mentality I guess, but it is a very different experience than taking turns reeling in the planer board that pulls back when it's your turn in line. Incredible fishery on LSC regardless of how you want to go after them and some really good fishermen from MMA taking advantage of it.

Up date as of today. Incredible numbers.

John A Dennis OH 315 fish 3016 points 35 inch average
Maurice J Potvin OH 163 fish 1496 points 35 inch average
J. Dean Davis OH 146 fish 1380 points 35 inch average
Jeff M. Hanson WI 71 fish 837 points 37 inch average.

The top three in every division are from Ohio from juniors to Men's masters and everything in between. The Buckeyes are on top. Mike
