I am looking to buy a new tackle box this winter to fit all my new muskie baits. The boxes I am using right now just do not work for this type of fishing and nowadays this is the only type of fishing I do. Any suggestions on a good one that will fit lots of big baits?

Would an upright type of box be better or a big bag type with many large planos?

I started off with one of the big blue Plano Muskie Boxes. I have one, and my brother has one. Besides that, I have a dozen Plano 3730's.The big boxes work ok, but, after fishing with Jason VK a few times, I like the setup he has. He has a bunch of the Plano 3730's that all fit into a duffel bag. The nice thing about that, is you can seperate your lures into categories ie topwater, shallow twitch, shallow crank, deep crank, etc. I have about 8 3730s with just Bulldawgs, and then I have others with only topwater, Jakes, Jigs. My big box is just an array of everything else.

Since I have very limited storage space in my little boat, I have the large Flambeau Maximizer tackle box and Cabela's Advanced Anglers Pro Series Super Magnum tackle bag which holds 7 Plano 3730s perfectly. IMO, I need both; the large box for my larger 8"+ crankbaits, and the Planos for smaller baits and plastics.

If you do get the Cabela's bag, don't buy it with boxes. They'll be the shallower Plano boxes that won't be any good for muskie lures. I got mine last year on sale for about $45 with no boxes. This bag has a stiff plastic tray for a bottom which really makes it easier to carry/handle, though when it's full it's an arm-stretcher.

Just Encase boxes are sweet, plus you can get them custom made to whatever size you want if youd like..

I do like my FLambeau box. I am going to try to put the plano 3730 boxes in one side of mine, for a little extra storage, and ease in getting things out. you can cram a lot of smaller cranks, rubber, and bucktails into one 3730. All you do is take out one of the square dividers and theres enough room for 5-6 3730's and i think 1 3700 for terminal tackle down the side… its worth a shot.
but for 79 bucks the flambeau is the most storage for the buck, and also keeps rain out very well.
