A while back I thought there was a suggestion of a muskie stamp to help generate funding for the Michigan muskie program. The following is a voluntary walleye stamp example in Wisconsin. Is just changing walleye to muskie a feasible idea? Pro/con, voluntary/mandatory? The MMA dedicated members are already donating to the DNR, just not using the official stamp. I'm trying to get more public support that might not spend $30 to join a organization, but may part with $5 to support a muskie program.
DNR seeks designs for first walleye stamp
Wildlife artists can submit entries for Minnesota’s first walleye stamp, which will be available to anglers when they purchase a 2009 fishing license. Earlier this year, the Minnesota Legislature passed a law creating the voluntary walleye stamp, which will add $5 to the cost of a 2009 fishing license if an angler chooses to purchase the stamp. Revenue from stamp sales is dedicated to walleye stocking and related activities.
Entries for the walleye stamp design will be accepted October 13, to Friday, October 24.
Artists must mail or hand-deliver their entries by 4 p.m. on October 24 to: 2009 Walleye Stamp Contest, DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife, Box 20, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN, 55155-4020.
