This is awesome!! Thanks to everyone who helped out at the hatchery and to the DNR for an amazing job this year. I know it will probably be awhile and will be pretty hard to fish, but I can't wait to chase after some fish in the rivers. Might be a pretty good outing location in the future too.
Great news! And, here's the proof that the little guys from the first stocking are doing GREAT!!

I must say, this is a very exciting time to be a muskie angler in the state of Michigan! Hats off to everyone involved with the new regs, the GLS program, and everything else that's moving in a positive direction.
Will, your dedication towards these little critters is something we'll forever give thanks for! Congrats on your outstanding run as founder/President of MMA. I'm sure you realize your goal of leaving the resource better than you found it has been reached hundred fold.

Man Matt Supinski is gonna be pissed when all those muskies start eating his salmon and steelhead on the Muskegon.
I don't really think he'll be pissed though. The Muskegon sites are over 100 miles from where he fishes, so it will be a while before these fish get down there anyway.

Rick, thanks. The future is bright.

Will the stocked lakes be protected from spearing or not because of the new 1 muskie per year rule?
With the new regulation maintaining, no to mention adding, waters on the spearing ban list is going to be difficult. That was the reason the change to 1/yr was so important, now it's going to force a spearer to break the law before they have an impact on a fishery. As I've said a number of times though, I would trade spearing on the stocked waters for spearing bans on the waters that have natural reproduction.

Will, are there any plans to start stocking Spring Lake and/or the Grand River in the near future? Or Muskegon, where it opens into the big water?
The lower Grand was on for this year but there weren't enough fish to make it that far into the list. Muskegon and Spring Lake are both on the wish list.
I would love to see Muskegon Lake……. in my opinion, that lake could become a destination lake if the fish took off there. There is a variety of structure that would suit different styles of fishing, good to decent water clarity, size, and lots of forage. Seems like a perfect lake to go after in the future. Lake Mac offers a lot of the same characteristics except in a way dirtier looking package (although once you get over the fact that you can't see what you are fishing, I think dirty water is way easier). Muskegon would be good from a tourism standpoint, as well, due to its proximity to several major travel corridors. When the local Gander Mountain's actually have a good musky sellection, we will know we are getting somewhere…..

Thanks Will, I agree.
