Oh, then they will literally be in my backyard Steve! Besides, there are other lakes like Winyah that lose them this way. In my opinion, it just creates a much more broad fishery than just the lake they were stocked in. Besides, I think there may be a few hangin' around still….and by now, hmmmm, they should be fatties! I've been itchin' to see. I think I'll start that quest this weekend……
Also, I'm pretty sure the reason they quit stocking was because the two strains were inter-mingling in the river. NOT because they saw it as a waste of time…….

This is awesome news, I'm sitting up in a tree stand right now and can't keep from smiling. Great news for us Kalamazoo area guys. Maybe a big buck will come thru shortly and really make my night.

Not a waste. Many will stay, and sure some will leave. The ones that leave will create an even cooler river fishery, it is where they belong.

And this is the best birthday present ever!!! (Even though obviously it's just a big coincidence) I'm glad the wife won't see this! Yeah, I've thought of that idea too Steve, as there are some cool areas to fish in that stretch that you need a boat you can carry in order to fish.

Rick yeah, you'd have to carry a boat to get on Barton, you can fish below Barton dam down to the next dam (can't remember the name) you can put a boat in under M-14 there's a launch on the other side, but I think its for canoes. Geddes Pond has a launch you can fish up stream to the dam below Barton and down stream under US23 to the Dixboro dam. You can fish from the Dixboro dam down to the next dam buy the old papermill, caught some nice smallies there. Used to work about 3mi from the Dixboro dam and fish there at lunch time. There are some monster mansion downstream from Dixboro, I think owned by the Ford family and the waste treatment plant.

Upstream from the papermill is what I used to fish all the time. Smallies, a few largemouth, walleyes and Pike. Biggest rock bass I've ever seen also. Every now and then, you can run into a biggun of all those species.

Back to the topic. It's nice to see Sanford on there as well. Hasn't it been a while for that lake too?

Sanford got a big shot in 2010 which is why it is low on the list for this year.

Great news for Austin if the numbers hold up. And MAC getting some fish is cool also. True monsters can grow out there!! Congrats to all involved in this fantastic rearing class!

I had the chance to net the fish going into Austin today :-). Lots and lots of healthy muskie this year guys.

Matt and I fished Austin and he hooked up with a 40ish fatty. Nice spots and white belly boat side as she shook off his dawg!!
