As for education I think the sports shows, particularly the GR one are important to keep an MMA footprint in. I know I will gladly donate my time to work the booth as much as work and family allow. I'm always shocked at how many good fisherman don't know anything about muskies. If they don't fish muskies they just don't know. These are the people we need to reach if were going to have an impact on changing the culture and I think the sport shows allow us to reach these people in mass. I'm also shocked how many guys target muskies that either A. aren't MMA members or B. dont even know about MMA. We need to get these people to join and be more involved as well.
Will, you will have to excuse us all. It hasn't really sunk in yet what was accomplished. No where else in this continent is there a one fish tag system. It really is the world record if you ask me. Larry Ramsell should do a story on you and the others who worked so hard on this.
I hope I live to see the day when I can drive to Monatgue and go out for a day on White Lake fishing for Spotted Muskies and know that I have a good chance of catching one. I knew this club was going to accomplish a lot but this is way more then most of us even dreamed. I remember when I first started writing the letters supporting tags. To be honest I pretty much gave up on politicians ever doing what was right. And now here it is, a done deal and it is just sinking in. I am sure you are tired of the headaches and would like to just go back to fishing. If you step down it will be very hard to fill your shoes. How about semi retirement???? 😀
I got chills as this unfolded at the steering committee Tuesday, I could hardly contain the rush I was feeling and wanted to start back slapping Will so much it was just stupid. Will had all well covered as usual, I get to show up as a pike advocate and some progress was made there too. But not what really is the most epic, remarkable advancement for muskie in the history of our entire continent. I've been so thrilled about this since then that it really is ridiculous.
It's not over until all is fully approved and in the laws, so I don't want to celebrate yet. But when all is final I think a mega-bash is in order. I had told our smaller MMA contingent closest to this that drinks are on me when it's all final, and I meant it. I'd like to buy drinks to salute all of MMA for this and if a few other nuts will help me towards that, maybe we can do something like turn this year's Bruce into the biggest outing ever with a celebratory bash to follow. I pledge the first $100 towards refreshments at the bash part, and if others like this idea we can see what happens…
