I agree. They started in West Michigan in Muskegon Lake in the early 90's and have spread throughout the state by fishermen. It doesn't seem like it's a big infestation on Murray yet. But once there, there forever.
It seemed this year that Murray had a deeper, taller weed growth then remembered in prior years. This could be one reason why.
As far as the invasives in Murray… The zebra's and quagga's have been there for a while. They were part of the changes that started about 6-8 years ago. Used to get quite an algae bloom in Murray with visibility down to 3 or less feet at times, not any more.
I think it's funny that the lake association is "watching" for E. milfoil, all they need to do is look at the lake and they'll see plenty of it. It has been part of the lake for a long time, at least as long as I've been fishing there.
Neither of these can be stopped. Slowed a little? Sure but you simply can't stop what can be carried from lake to lake by waterfowl and both mussels and milfoil can be transported by waterfowl. Even lakes that are completely private (no public ramp) have E. milfoil and z/q mussels.
