He was trolling and doing fine until he slowed down too much. 😯 Have no idea how they will get it out but should be entertaining to watch.
Saw it land in front of our house and taxi at a fast pace down the lake. He got down to the east end and as he slowed to turn back around it dropped through. Am glad he got out. Lake resident pushed a kayak out to get him. East half of the lake was all open water less than 48 hours earlier. To show how clueless some people are – some 20 minutes later a guy and dog walked right out to the plane. Dog fell through and I thought I was going to have to call 911 again but dog got out and they left the ice.

Murray lake does not freeze uniformly at all, it can be 3" thick and 10" thick 100 yards away. Driving a plane around this early in the winter out there with all the snow and thaws we have had is just asking for a problem. Someone with enough money to own a plane SHOULD be smarter than that.

They do it all the time on the lakes around there, and there is a guy that lives on the lake with a plane. I've seen that yellow plane land on silver lake a handful of times. It does sound like fun, till you fall through the Ice…

Rumor I heard was that he was on Bostwick and Wabasis before his ill fated landing on Murray. There is a group of 3 – 4 airplanes that regularly land on local lakes, with pontoons in summer, skis or balloon tires in the winter. A pilot friend told me the only restriction is they are supposed to stay 500 feet away from anything including boats and ice fishermen.
Locals are all talking about how and when they get it off the lake. I'm thinking of starting a pool and have dibs on February 15.
Well, I was wrong about timing. Crew with 2 airboats was here all day yesterday chipping ice and finally started lifting at about 4 pm. They were still at it after dark, in howling wind and rain that I do not think any of us would have fished in. Were done at 9 pm.

In my floatplane flying days, unless there is a speed limit listed on the lake, and met the criteria for minimums , it was fair game. I never flew off Murray, but it would be an awesome lake to fly in and out of. I used Long and Fine lakes, Fish and Gun for prof. Flying lakes mostly 🙂
