The Munuscong Bay outing for July will be based out of Riverview Resort and Marina. I know its still a long way out, but because it will be held right in the prime vacation time of the summer, I would suggest making your reservations, now. Riverview is right on the south end of the Neebish channel leading into Munuscong Bay. They have cottages, camping, boat docks, and a nice ramp available at their facility. As of now everything is still available for these dates except the cottage I have reserved for the week.

If Riverview fills up there are cottages available close by at Island View Resort.

This is big water, but also has a lot of well protected water close to the marina, so I wouldn't be afraid to fish it from a small boat. If anyone has any questions, ideas or suggestions, call or txt me at 269-944-9846, pm me here, or email at ** you do not have permission to see this link **.
I will post information on any campfires, cookouts, or other get togethers as it becomes available, so stay tuned. Hope to see you all there to beat the summer heat and explore some great upper peninsula muskie water.

I've spoken with one of our members from the Soo area. Rod Jones(rjbass on this forum) owns and operates Iva Biggen Bait company. He makes some sweet looking muskie baits and is running muskie charters on the St. Marys system. He has graciously agreed to get together with us and tell us a little about this fishery.
I thought it would be best to get an idea who's coming and when to best take advantage of Rods generous offer. Will enough of us be arriving on Thursday to get together then, or should we wait until Friday afternoon or evening?
Rod is also available on the dates of our outing for charters. Anyone considering a guided trip should give him a call.

Wishin I could go to this! I will be up there, most likely, for a few days in early July and will give a report then. I am glad that the license and boating regs question came up, since I think a lot of people don't have any experience with this… Like me! So if anyone has a particularly good resource for info and the specifics of this, please post it! Also, not having a passport, and thinking I want to be comfortable going wherever I want, does anyone have experience with the PASS card or the enhanced drivers license?
Thanks for any info!

I got an enhanced license earlier this year. It cost ~$45 and takes two weeks, so if you want it in July, don't delay. Breezed right through Ontario driving to the Rochester, NY area without any trouble at Customs. I'm sure it would make life less problematic if you wanted to go fishing in CA, too, but I have no experience with that.
As long as you are in the boat while in Canada (on water, not land) you don't need to worry about the passport or enhanced drivers license. Just need your Canadian fishing license. And the extra Great Lakes requirements are just the whistle and flares, I think. Anyone please correct me if wrong!
Only been stopped once up there, it was by USCG and everything went smooth and good, nice fellas well armed. See Border Patrol all the time but they rarely stop or do anything except sit in truck and stare at the water…
One other important thing to keep in mind though is using your cell phone while there and getting hit with roaming charges from Canadian towers. This can happen even while on US land in some areas up there!
Just got back from the UP…..considering the 25 degree air temp difference near the straits, and the 4 to 5 miles of ice still on superior, I'm thinking the Cong is a bit chilly right now. Hope it heats up by the outing, but I think it might be a little slow right now. I'm heading back up in 3weeks and planned on fishing there while I was up, but unless we get some hot weather…..hope not…..I'm thinking it will still be a bit slow to be worth the effort.
I did hear they where catching walleyes in Brimley bay, so at least there's no ice there. Does anybody have a recent avg. surface temp of Munuscong. I read online that the water temp at the power plant in the Soo was 41~Im gonna be up around the bay this weekend pike fishing, will report back with temps.

Ok, here's the skinny……we found 70 degrees in the 0-2ft water in the SW and N side of the bay. We had to get real close to shore to find anything over 60 degrees. Any thing even close the shipping channel was in the high 40s to low 50s. Even some of the 3-5 ft water out in the middle was in the mid 50s. I did manage one musky (38.25) which I think is fortunate because the shallows are as murky as I've ever seen them. Sometimes we couldn't see our lure 3" in the water. But that's probably why some of the shallows are as warm as they are.
I heard from a local that they are going to open the water up more going through the soo. I guess to let some of the ice packs break up quicker that are still floating around Superior. That will be another shot of cold water when/if that happens.

OK guys, here's the plan.
We will meet for dinner at Cozy Corners <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]

on Thursday the 24th at 5:00pm. Rod Jones from IvaBiggun guide service will meet us there to give us some advice on fishing the area.
I am also planning a cookout for Saturday the 26th at Riverview <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]

around 2:00pm. I think we'll be grilling up some burgers and dogs. We will also be having nightly campfires at the marina, so stop in, even if your staying somewhere else.
Rod tells me the fishing has been tough so far this summer, with the cold water and lack of weed growth. Hopefully we'll get some steady and warm weather and fishing will pick up by then. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Really wish I could have made it up for this outing but I will be out of town for my honeymoon that whole week/weekend.
Good luck everyone and I look forward to hearing the reports. We need more reports from those waters and sending a group of MMA guys up there to get some better intel is a great idea.
