Thanks to Pete Lebaron and Jeff Menz for putting on a very successful swap on Saturday. We had a strong showing and I know many left there with a bunch of new lures. It was good to see the "Midland" boys all together after a long winter and I was especially happy to see LeMay there who helped contribute to my lure collection. Good times boys, thanks much! Yes; many thanks to Pete and Jeff! And thanks to everyone for being nice to the stoopid n00b, too. [smilie=bow.gif]

(Although not liking my favorite beer has brought you all down several notches in my esteem! )

A blast as usual! We did have 9 last mintue, day-of cancelations for all sorts of reasons (some good – flu, sick kid, walleyes biting on the bay; some bad – work!). Still plenty of folks, pizza, beer and lures to go around though.

Some great pick up's for me – 13" g-ma from a generous drunk (just kiddin big fella), $25 for two nice rods (for my kid), and I got several of Lemay's impressive spread of lures, including some sweet looking homemade bucktails…man how long have you been doing this musky thing, Jim? That selection looked like a seasoned vets!

But one of the best parts of the day/evening was getting support from other musky fisherman in explaining the current status of the Michigan's stocked musky fishery to an esocid commitee member. Some of the folks that left earlier may have missed that, but it was a great discussion! He needed to hear that it isn't so much that we need more fish to stock (though that's obviously the ultimate goal), we just need to be more clever and careful about the numbers that we do stock. Will and I have harped on this for some time, but to see the realization in his eyes when it finally clicked (hopefully that wasn't just the beer)…now that was nice.

And don't worry Hemi, I think someone more civilized (you should take offense here, Greg) did discover and finish off your 6 pack of the fancy stuff after you left!

Special thanks to Jeff Menz – what a cool musky man cave that guy has created! For those of you who didn't participate in the lure collecting discussion, some of those he had on display are worth over $200 a pop! Awesome stuff.

Pete I started out muskie fish back in the late 60's with my grandfather as a kid up on Mosse Lake by Hayward WI. But I did not get back into just fishing for muskie's till about 5 years ago. I did some river fishing with Jim Bedford back in the 80's for steelhead and he tought me how to make spinners back then. So when I started back muskie fish I just starter makeing lots of spinners. Then frist winter I made about 350 of them. And still have lots of them I've never tosed.

LeMay OUT
