Everything I have heard, or read about Mike Holmes is that he is clown who has little or no scientific knowledge to back up any of his ridiculous requests. If this is true than how is it possible that he keeps getting his way? Since I started musky fishing seriously 4 years ago every move by the MI DNR has been to increase spearing and harvest opportunities. They have opened more lakes to spearing, and increased the length of the spearing season. Now they are about to open even more lakes to spearing. If this guy is such a selfish jerk and a clown, than how does he keep getting his way? What is he doing right? What are we doing wrong? I just don't get it, and more and more recently I'm starting to think maybe I never will.
It continues to amaze. One moron has more influence than the countless thousands of conservation minded anglers who see it the opposite way. Yet the relatively few idiots are being discriminated against with a mere 99.9% of the waters open to spearing, even with a longer season thanks to the December expansion to satisfy them. Good thing the regular sportfishing majority, and the fisheries resources themselves, are not being discriminated against. That couldn't possibly be the case.
Well, I'm going to write an email to see what kind of strings can get pulled. I've worked closely with a couple guys named Dave & Doug Yonker. Their brother (who I've done work for at his home) is Ken Yonker. He is the only only that I personally know who is in Legislature, and a member of the House of Reps. Maybe if I take him fishing and land him a fall fatty, he can become interested enough to talk to some of his "friends in high places." We've got to stomp out this wildfire. 😈
I've come to an understanding that the people at the top of the ladder seem to get there based on their connections most of the time so its no surprize the musky world is the same. We all want things to be different now but thats not possible. We have to continue our projects and raise awareness and hopefully we can get some of the things we are looking for like the one fish/season limit.
