Lure touch-up

I recently repainted a newer Grandma with spray paint. The colors actually turned out well and I am now ready to put on a top coat. I used a spray on polyurethane last month and used it at the Webster outing and found out after 5 casts that I wasn't as superfly as I thought because the waterproof top coat peeled off. My question is this, what should I use for this small project to top coat this lure? I looked at envirotec but didn't want to spend $17 for the small bottle. I just need something I can buy at a local hardware store to quickly and easily top coat this lure without worrying about turning or bubbling. Thanks

It's pricey but I have found that small Envirotex Lite kit to go a long way, many touch-ups and even complete lure sealing jobs (it should be cheaper than that $17 somewhere, hopefully). Before that I thought the Devcon 2-part plunger kit deal from Wal-Mart etc. was more affordable and worked pretty well. It's thicker to apply, I like Envirotex better but the Devcon still ain't bad.

However, I defer to Mr. King, Mr. Moski, Mr. Mottes, Mr. Stinson and likely other excellet painters in this club to really give the best advice on this one.

Do you even need to put a clear coat on that lure? How did the paint hold up after the clear coat came off on Webster? The lure is solid plastic so it doesn't really need to be sealed like a wooden lure, right?

I stopped using it after the spray polyurethane came off. I just wanted to protect the paint & I wasn't sure if I should put another protective coat over the paint job. I'm sure it peeled off because it was plastic. I was just looking for something for small paint projects. I painted this lure like the original blk/silver rapala & liked the way it turned out so I just wanted to protect the paint somewhat. I'll give it a go this weekend & see how the paint job holds up.

The paint will hold up fine as long as you don't let any soft plastics come in contact w/ it. If a soft plastic does come in contact it will melt the paint and you'll end up with a nasty spot on the lure that will never be quite right again.

Having some E-tec around is almost mandatory for a muskie angler.

Has anyone tried spraying this with a small airbrush, and if so what is used to thin it?
