I am guessing alot guys had the same problem I did. Family time. Noon to 5 on a saturday kinda kills the whole day. If I am going to miss a saturday with the family, I am going to actually go fishing instead of stand around talking about fishing. The old format of 5-6pm till whenever was much easier to get permission to go.
I would keep it. I guess I don't understand, we have very few outing or events and everyone who is a member believes in this organization and what it is trying to do. Improve the muskie fishing in this state, inform people and get more members. The dates for 2011 are already printed with alot of lead time to mark your calendar now. It's just like we have people who won't do fishing reports, I thought this is to help new people to the sport, if not what is the point???
I did not question if people believe in what MMA does. The question is why did we only have 15 people compared with the 40+ of the last five or six years. If it isn't something we can change then maybe this is this an event that we shouldn't hold any longer. Maybe it's a simple fix and it needs to stay in the evening. Maybe it was just a strange year and everyone was busy. Maybe the members aren't interested in attending a lure swap. Maybe free pizza isn't appealing. Maybe it needs to be on a weekday. Who knows? I don't know why and that's the reason this was posted.
Once we know why some people didn't attend then we can discuss what to to about the event. If we don't ask questions then we can't improve. We also aren't going to keep holding an event that shrinks by more than 1/2 each year. If next year has the same numer of people or fewer then I would be the first to suggest that we skip the event and just have a December meeting.
I'm also of the opinion that if people don't care enough to attend meetings, outings or events then why should we have people go through the effort to plan these events? Again, I don't know the answers and why people don't attend… ask your fellow MMA members – that's what I'm doing.
I unfortunately was working. With a 24 hr work day it wouldn't have mattered when the event was but I do agree that a later start time would be easier to get away. This has been a terrible year for me to get to meetings, it just seems that my/wife's work schedule always seemed to have things going on Thursdays. I plan on trying to be at more events this year even if I have to take time off to do so.
I really missed seeing a lot of the faces that I rarely get to see. Don't get me wrong, I still love seeing/talking to all of you there, but it really did seem quiet in there. As I've said before, this is one of my favorite events, and I would hate to see it eliminated. As far as time goes for me, this time, it actually worked out better for me in the afternoon as some friends of ours were holding an early Christmas party that started at 7. But either way, night or afternoon, I'm going to the Lure Swap!
This event is much appreciated, I hope we keep it. Arrived with some lures, left with some I thought might be a better bet, donated a few, enjoyed talking to those that made it out. Not sure of the reasons for fewer partaking but wouldn't want to miss it so I hope we try it again, maybe back to later in the day if that helps. Thanks to all who made it possible.
I had a family conflict this year. Bummed I couldn't make it, I love the swaps and the pizza is a draw as well. Although having just had the pizza get together recently may have lessened the draw for that. Also, the evening time would generally work much better so it doesn't kill a whole day… and I would also like to throw out the idea for one week later. 2nd weekend in December better for me but see what you guys all think? Thanks for putting it on, sorry I couldn't make it
