In keeping with the uniqueness of the Michigan Muskie Show, we need to make the lure swap for this event unique. Help me come up with something that wil set this apart from other lure swaps and make it the best lure swap on the planet.
Any ideas? Charity event for kids? Care packages for troops in Afganistan?
One idea…
We rise money though entry fee and raffles. Then take that money and purchase items off the Mott Childrens Hospital wish list:
Wish List
Thank you for your interest in helping families at U-M C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. As one of the nation’s leading pediatric institutions, Mott provides services to seriously ill or injured children and teens. The Child & Family Life Program, with support from community donors, helps to make the stays of patients a little easier through play, teaching, crafts, art and music therapies, and medical play.
Here you will find items that are most used and requested by our Activity Therapists and patients. Before purchasing a toy or other in-kind gift, please carefully review our Toy and Gift Safety Guidelines. For safety and health reasons, we ask that all donations be brand new with store tags attached.
What we need
Gift Cards
Gift cards enable patients and families who are staying at the hospital to obtain the items they most need. Some gift card ideas include Target, Meijer, and restaurants that deliver to the hospital, such as Domino’s Pizza or Cottage Inn.
Registries
Mott is registered at Target, Toys ‘R Us, and Wal-Mart. All registries can be searched for through Mott (first name) Hospital (last name).

Another idea…
Soldier Support Lure Swap to benefit one of the following:
Michigan National Guard Family Fund

Military Family Relief Fund

Operation USO Care Package

All good ideas.
We could also ask for some lure/tackle donations from the vendors, and collect non-perishable foodstuff donations from attendees. A food donation earns an entry to a lure package raffle. They do this in Chicago, don't they?
We could donate the food to the Food Bank Council of Michigan to help hungry Michiganians:

Yes, they do this at the Chicago swap but everything about this show is different from any other show, the related swap needs to be different too.

My vote still stays on keeping the money here in Michigan. [smilie=2c.gif]
How? The childrens hospital idea or something else? Two of the above soldier support groups are Michigan based. Right now I can't find a way to get care packages to only Michigan soldiers.

let's just say that doing something to benefit Michigan would be timely.
Something? I need a little more to go on than that.

The other way to make this lure swap really shine could involve pizza, or some other yummy thing. Looking forward to it!
The facility for this hasn't been selected at this point. Requirement #1 is enough space, requirement 1a is beer.

Something good…like pizza!
I suppose an indoor pool doesn't happen to be located nearby? Watching lures swim is also something good.
No… when you said something to benefit Michigan. LOL I'm not sure how pizza can benefit Michigan… Were you thinking money raised for the DNRE or something else?

Ha! Yeah, the pizza is mainly to benefit me, not Michigan. Though I suppose it also benefits those around me who get to witness my epic eating skills as well.
As for Michigan, yup, money to the DNRE is what I was thinking – seems like our money goes a long way there.
OK, the only problem w/ raising money for the DNRE is that we would have to hold the money until a project comes along. With a lure swap deal like this that isn't all MMA members we want to be able to turn the money over to the charity within a couple days. If that doesn't happen "people" start asking questions about where the money is, why hasn't it been used, etc.
I see this as an opportunity to show the world that muskie anglers care about more than just fishing.

hmm…these "people" need to be kicked in the nards a few times.

Nothing wrong with that at all. I was just thinking that there will be a lot of non-MMAers there and if they heard that money raised went towards something tangible and relevant in their minds (like muskies, musky food, hatchery hardware, etc…) they might think "these SOB's actually DO something…maybe I should join and chip in to the cause…"
I do see what you're sayin though…
