What makes the difference between Mens division, and Mens Masters? It just seems weird that there are 100 guys in the Mens' division who have more points than some guys in the Masters.

I believe you become a master after logging 250 fish.

This may be a dumb question, but what is the "lunge log"?

KMUR is correct. it takes 250 M.O.F.C. registered fish to make it into the mens masters. It is not uncommon to see early leads in the Mens division but this will likely change in the Fall. #1 in mens and 1 IN MENS MASTERS Can be close at time but there are guy in the masters that catch 200 to 400 fish per year and they dont even get started until June. Look again in October a tthe standings and I am sure by then the real heavy hitters will be on top. And those guys are in the Masters division.

The Lunge log is Muskies incs Members only fishing contest or M.O.F.C. the log contains fish reports of over a quarter of a million fish caught and released. In many cases the lake is mentioned, lure type etc. Every year the Mofc posts leaders in 5 divisions. Juniors, Womens, Womans masters, Mens and Mens masters. Pete Maina was a past Mens masters winner. My wife won the Womans division in 2006. Will Schultz has placed high in Masters for a bunch of years in a row. It is mostly a friendly contest with a plaque for the winners. Some people take it more serious then others. My wife and I used it to launch our lure company and test our Musky fishing talents against some of the finest Musky anglers in the United States and Canada. Michelle proved to be one of best women of all time and holds two Muskies inc womens records with 103 Muskies in one year(over 30 inches) and 1100 points scored in one year. That same year I placed second in Mens with 123 fish. It was fun competing but hard on the pocket book and at times painfull as we found out fishing Fluke lake Ontario for 9.5 straight days. The Lunge Log is a wealth of information for anyone who has access. W e learned about Fluke lake by reading the catch reports of Will and Joe Hardy both past mens masters winners. After reading that information we had the right lures for the trip and caught 104 Muskies in 9.5 days. That is what the Lunge log can do for you. Mike and Michelle

LOL!! [smilie=bangtard.gif] 😀

I'm always competitive, but there is no way I'll ever be in the top of the Mens division. I just think it's a great database for all your fish. You can put down all the information that led up to the catch of the fish. Wind speed, day temp, time of day, lure depth, fish depth, sky conditions, etc. It's all in there.

The Lunge Log is Muskies, Inc. database of catch data volunteered from members of the organization. The lunge log is not a contest, it is just a database.

The Muskies, Inc. Members Only Fish Contest (MOFC) was put back in place after many years away in 2004 (I think). Many chapters still had their local MOFC when M-Inc. stopped the national awards and many still have their own MOFC to this day. The problem with a contest of this type is that those fishing more hours will be at the top of the contest. For those people that fish once a month or a few days of each month it just isn't fair. In reality those people could be much better anglers than people who appear at the top of the MOFC.

The masters division is 250 fish in the lunge log as noted for men and 100 for women.

As noted you'll see some drastic swings in the divisions through the year. The guys in WI and MN get way behind the guys in the southern states for a while but will make it up by the end of season. Generally the top five in mens are usually near the same points as the top five in masters. Once again though it all comes down to how much you fish and/or if you fish numbers water.

The top five in each division as of today are…

Yes Will is correct the Log is not the contest. But the contest uses the entries to the log.

Hemi, 104 muskies in 9.5 days was really pretty easy on that lake. Will is also correct that just because some one wins the mofc doesnt mean they are the best fishermen out there. The hardy bots(boys) live every summer on Fluke Lake which is a snake pit full of hundreds of small muskies. The biggest ones we caught were 40 inches and about 8 pounds one might have went 10. average fish 34 inches see Joe Hardy. But some people just like catching I guess. I mean Fluke Lake is catching not fishing. You go there cast and catch Muskies its a given. Not much challenge really and if you notice Michelle and I never went back. By day 6 our elbows were toast and it wasnt fun anymore. We got up did 800 mils of motrin drank some high octane cappacino and burned double 8 Shumways or ripped Claws and pounded them. When I got home My elbow was toast for a month. I had to troll almost the entire rest of the season.

I use the Lunge log for information on lakes I have not fished yet. Lots of guys give depth and presentation and that helps understand seasonal movements of Muskies on any given body of water. For instance on Fluke lake we saw by the hardy boys reports that Shumway flashers were a hot bait in 2 to 6 feet of water with weeds. Prolly 60 of those 104 fish came on bucktails in that zone. Of course we mixed in our stuff and some top water and Crane baits but that was about it. Only got two or three trolling the whole time as the fish were plastered to the shoreline. We still would have done well but having that information helped us start with a 17 fish day. It was rediculas and very fun until it hurt. ha ha ha 😯 Mike and Michelle

You can also see all the standings in the Muskies Inc. magazine that gets sent out every month. There's also data for largest releases pure strain, and hybrid, and also a lunker of the month. It's really cool data to watch to see where the most consistent big fish are coming from.

Remember though, the date is the magazine is at least a month old for fish entries.

Keep in mind that those are only the fish reported to the database and don't contain many of the biggest fish caught throughout the year, even by members of Muskies, Inc. I know there are some lakes in MN where there are lots of big fish being caught but looking at the LL you would probably think Mill Lacs and Vermillion were the best bets…
