[quote="Jim tenHaaf"]I think a big fish tournament kinda sucks. IMO a point system is much better. Guys who are on the fish can win. In this tourney, 2 guys could catch 10 48-52" fish. But if 1 guy gets just 1 54"er, he wins.
Well, yeah, that's the point!!!Nobody is gonna catch 10 48-52" fish!!!!!
Well, it IS LSC, u can't rule anything out! But, OK, even 4 42'' fish would beat out a 54 in points.

I've seen 10 over 46" in the net casting…….

Agreed, those numbers aren't impossible at all I've seen it more than once.
Donnelly and I came close one evening with 6 landed 44" to just under 50" and 4 lost out there. 2 out of the 4 lost snapped our 3oz jigs!! All casting in a half evening of fishing.. That was a fun and frustrating night as we both lost some fish that were true giants! I know that one fish still haunts Timmy to this day!!
We've had plenty of 4-5 fish days but the worst is having a multiple fish day go to shit when you leave the lake knowing it could have been a great day but lost every fish!! Those days sting!
Or the fish finally show up right before you have to leave! For some reason the last cast of day has brought in or raised a fish on many occasions. It's like they are messing with you, giving you the "fin" just before you have to leave for the day.
Stupid fish….

That makes me really jealous. Bow or gun?
Rifle, first season, high elevation. Bow hunting an elk is on my wish list but will have to wait till next time.
That is still awesome. One of my top goals is to kill an elk with my bow also.
Back to the subject of how the tournament is scored. I actually like it because I personally would value a 54 over dozens of 40 inchers.

Yes, I agree terrible idea/format. No tournament should ever be won strictly on luck. That's what a big fish pot/prize is for, the real tournament winner should always be the best angler (or at least most of the time). I'm just speculating here but KVD probably didn't have the biggest fish at any of the classics he won… should they have given those to the guy catching the biggest fish for the weekend?
Agreed… It's all about consistency when tourney fishing. I'd rather have a 54" fish over a bunch of 40" fish out fishing for fun but I don't like the idea of biggest fish wins… 5 guys can each catch a 54" fish in the tourney but whoever calls it in first is the winner. It shouldn't matter who catches fish first as long as its within the tourney hours. Multiple fish and a point system shows who's dialed in, who's really understanding that days bite and on a pattern. It's a better measurement of who was the best angler that day or weekend.
I'm a little off on why the tournament directors decided to do it this way?

I understand what you are saying about luck determining the winner, however deciding the tourney based on big fish is FAR from saying its determined strictly by luck. Also KVD didn't get credit for every single fish he landed either, its about the 5 biggest per day out of many many fish landed.
I do agree its probably not the best way to find out who the best fisherman is, I'm just saying I kind of like that format. In the end I'm not into fishing tournaments myself so I really could care less. (however I can't wait for "The Bruce")

[smilie=sign-yeahthat.gif] I say go with the point system, but then have a "big fish award".
I think Dustin Wells is organizing the whole thing with some help from Jason Quintano.
