Guess who just ordered one? [smilie=2thumbsup.gif] This Guy!

FYI Lowrance has some substantial rebates on right now through April 30th I got $100.00 on this unit. It was 300 on some of the HDS units. I really wanted to network my boat but 8500.00 seemed a little steep 🙄

Fish finders are worse than computers when it comes to new and updated technology. I got the HDS 5 two years ago and I feel like it's an antique, they've already come out with the 2nd generation HDS… Not to mention the $500 or so dollars to get structure scan…

P.S. Long Lake

It's not about the latest and greatest. It's all about maximizing what you have. Last I knew, it was still a human that catches a fish!

This is true! I actually caught the most muskies in 1 year the year that I didn't have any depthfinder on my boat at all.

My most valued electronics purchase wasn't the fish-finder, it was upgrading the minnkota to gps. That is sweet stuff, esp the anchor, and track features-its on my gotta have list for all future trolling motor/fishfinder purchases [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]

That Elite 5 is sweet stuff !

But oh so much easier when you have every spot marked to the T, being able to troll a break line knowing every structural element 10 ft before you get there ect…

There's something way more impressive by the way my grandpa would take me to a spot and line up certain landmarks and be good to go.

Thankfully your right and it still takes a large human element to catch fish. Not for long though 😈

So Jason, aka JVK, has an edge because he's a large human? LOL

Haha, well he can prolly see follows better than me thats for sure! He could become a billfish captain and not even need to sit in the flybridge. [smilie=brickwall.gif]

Ill second the need for a good chart plotter on Lake st. Clair. We just have the old 3500 c lowrance gps units. They work great for telling us where we are and where we are going. And that little trail and way points show us where have been. Priceless. Mike

I finally upgraded to a couple Lowrance Elite 5 units. Not the best out there for sure, but they'll get the job done. It will be nice being able to mark spots and trolling runs. Geez, I used that Humminbird fishin' buddy, sonar on a stick, FOREVER!

Don't feel bad Rick, I finally replaced mine that was 17 years old. Bought both of them from fellow members. A Lowrance for the dash (couple years old) and a Eagle for the trolling motor (couple years old).

I fish alot of stuff with nasty bottom structure and the dsi seemed the best option for seeing whats down there.
