we tried several knots, im not sure what knot he was trying to tie or had tied, but the line held up for his 43.5 the day before.
I think he had that cortland musky mono? the thread like black line.. i may be mistaken but i cant remember. It was maybe 50-60 lb test, it was breaking at the top of the knot. The knot itself held, the line snapped right after the knot.
The knot i tried tying on his was the same i use, but he couldnt break mine. my line also has thinner diameter, but stronger as well.
I use that knot that you wrap around like 6 times and pull it through the hole. I think its the fisherman knot maybe? cant remember.
Black cortland is either dacron or mono and no comparison to a superline. Neither is appropriate for muskies and hasn't been in at least 10 years. Knot strength and wear problems will occur with both, it's just a matter of time. If he's not using PowerPro, Spiderwire Stealth or another good superline in at least 80# test bad things will happen and I'm not talking just lost lures but eventually he'll leave a lure in the mouth of a fish and condemn it to death.
If he can't afford it then I can see what I have laying around and we'll get him set up with good line.
As far as knots don't tie anything except a palomar – period. It is a very easy knot to tie and is the best knot for superlines. The fishermans knot or trilene knot will all cause problems and will reduce the line strength dramatically.
it was the dacron musky master line, he already took it off his line.
He has 80lb test in this

That is what he is gonna put on, but i told him to put on palomar knot.
Ive yet to have any problems with that line and have used it for a long time, but on my other rod im gonna put some power pro on it, once i get it.
