Rumor in my neck of the woods is that a 52" was just caught out of Long Lake (Grand Traverse) not sure of the details but I'm sure the fish was harvested, happens every year. Also a guy I know that lives on Mickey lake (connected to long lake) says every spring he see's Muskies spawning. I thought that was interesting if tru and would be awesome if there is natural reproduction occuring and the lake is more populated then we think. sounds like I need to get out there with the spotlight this spring.

The muskies in all lakes go through the spawning process, but they aren't successful in reproducing in most lakes as the eggs get suffocated by silt. The fish need some flowing water to keep the eggs clean from dirt and silt to be successful usually, but I don't know anything about that lake though so perhaps there is natural reproduction going on.

Hey Chris, the muskies in Long Lake are all naturally reproduced by this point. They have been sustaining themselves, albeit at a very low density for quite some time now since they were introduced many years ago.

Yes, Duke has it right (of course) all the muskies present on Long are naturallly reproduced because the stocking in there was a long time ago.

Seeing them spawning really isn't a surprise, they are the most concentrated they'll be all year. If he was seeing 20 each day then that would be a surprise.

I know there was a 51-ish caught there this spring and killed.
