I recently started making my own wire leaders. I like them quite a bit, but I feel when attempting to remove the tag end after the barrel twist I leave more than I desire. Any tips for getting the tag end to break flush with the barrel twist?

Thanks for any tips!

This shows it being done with a haywire twist, but it works with barrel twists, too. Works for me every time:

Or, if you don't want to waste (or you don't HAVE) that extra 2" every time, you can just use a needle nose vise grips, clamp it on tight, and start twisting.

After a 4-5 wrap using a Due-Bros tool I just lift the tag up and down with my fingers and it snaps off at the base every time.
