As of the time I was out on the water(1030-130), there were 2 fish caught. Jim tenHaaf caught a 32" and Will caught the other.

Actually…
Jim – 32
Schultz’s – 36, 38, 29.25, 34 (lost three)

Will's Dad caught a fish I'd tagged at the end of June.

No, I caught the 36"er with the tag.

I don't think we lost anything either. PM us with details…

I know it wasn't one of yours based on the leader, unless you don't give your dad any of yours… It was on a 8" stranded leader with a cheap snap and chrome BB swivel. And the line looked pretty thin, like maybe 20-30#.

Our last couple trips we fell into the trap of fishing the methods/lures that we wanted to catch fish on – AKA not fishing smart. Saturday we fished how we wanted for a few hours then I told Dad we just needed to get some fish tagged. We completely changed our approach. In ten minutes we had caught a fish and lost a fish. It then became a game of searching for the right conditions. Where we would find one fish we would find three or more.

Im sure we all do that way too much; we do what we want and not what the fish want. I know I do this a lot and it takes me a little while to realize I need to change. We can get stuck in a rut of using the same lure, at the same speed, on the same spot when the fish might not want it like that.

Did you start throwing different baits, or did you continue throwing what we saw you throwing earlier, because that didn't work for us… 🙄

Don't forget, Hemi. I lost those 2 other fish in the "deep". I had 2 fish on in 10 minutes on a DDD. I was too slow on the snap, and lost them. I guess they could've been cats, but I'm assuming they were muskies the way I was fishing the lure.

We found the same pattern. 2 follows came quickly within 5-10 min. of eachother. One was ~36", other low 40's.

Things aren't always as they appear. Remebmer… we still have a match to fish against each other so showing our hand might not have been in our best interest. LOL!!!!

Right; and those baits were different than what we saw Will throwing earlier, which is why I asked.

There were four tagged – good day. We're still far behind where I wanted to be at this time of year and I'm not sure if we're going to reach the goal of 100 tagged.
