On the early AM salmon movement into Lake Mac today (Saturday), there were two reports of muskies caught, one 41" released in Lake Mac and the other 50" off the pier, not reported as released. This info comes from two sources on the American Tackle website.

My dads friend caught one, with all the baitfish and such moving into the shallow water the muskies have moved into the channel, thinkin about trolling in there sometime soon. Pretty sure he released it as he was salmon fishing. If someone caught one off the pier i wouldn't know how they would get it in a net to lift it up to the pier without injurying it

That's how a muskie should be built.

W/ my armchair biologist hat on…
That's ok, that strain of fish should never have been stocked there in the first place.

True.
I think the DNR "overlooked" that big exit out to the great lake!! [smilie=bangtard.gif]

I still cant see 50" out of that fish.?? I re-read the chat and that is the 50"40+pounder. I guess the guy holding it is not the person who caught it he was the tallest guy around that could lift the fish for a weight reading.
I was talking with Scott W and Im sure with all the people salmon fishing someone must have had a decent scale and tape measure ??? So,..its
probably legit. ?? A nice fish forsure! Butt,………
My wife measured me from the tops of my feet to my belly button area and its 39ish. Granted he might be taller and his belly doesnt hang as low as mine,..but 50 inches!!?? Ill be sniffing around this one for a couple days.

true… if that is a northern strain.

It could be a GLS following food around, lots of fish recently started moving into Mac… could have been following food. [smilie=2c.gif]

It has bars though, not spots… Has to be a northern, right?

I don't necessarily think so. Often that is the case, but I've seen pics of some Green Bay fish that had a strong barred pattern. Also this fish almost looks a little spottie to me. But I could definitely be wrong; it's happened once or twice. LOL

i do know a lot of these bigger muskies come in from the big lake and are natural reproducing fish, its always this time of year that my dad hears through his salmon charter buddies or friends that start catching muskies when all the salmon are in close following food

While a definite answer to its true strain could only come from genetic testing I'd say (as another arm chair biologist) that thats not a GLS. Doesn't even look close. Using Green Bay fish for comparison doesn't work well since there have been Wisconsin Strain in the mix with that population since day one. In Green Bay there are some fully spotted fish, some half spotted some half barred (likely cross breeding). some full on Wisconsin Strain Greenies, and then there are the tigers……….
