I'm not a scientist nor do I play one on tv, I'll leave that up to Hemi. Looking at all the fish reports on stained water lakes, it seems like were a month behind. I guess the 2 winters before this last one, we payed the price.

I decided to go chase some smallies instead on Saturday and was quite surprised by the water temps. I fished this same lake on the opener last year and temps in 2013 were 52-54 degrees, and this year the temps were 49-51. With the colder spring I was sure that the temps would be about 8-10 degrees lower than last year but it was only a few degrees difference. In fact, it was one of my best smallie days in the last few years. It looks like temps over the next week are still going to be below normal, but so far it doesn't seem to have effected the bite much. Granted, I'm only basing this assumption on one day of bass fishing.

Surface temps warm up quickly. I had a 4 degree difference just between my trolling motor transducer which was a couple feet deeper and the other on the back of the boat.

Went to 2013 post on the opener and the water temps were the same. But I could see the weeds and they were coming. Saturday I went to a bunch of places I know with big weed beds and nothing. I'd get just tiny little pieces of weeds no more than a inch long. But stranger than that was not getting any dead weeds!
