Who's going?

June 18, 19
Ellsworth Lake/Upper Antrim Chain

This outing will not have any scheduled lunch or dinner but for those interested in getting and sharing information about the chain please meet at the Ellsworth Lake boat launch at first light on June 18th. At that point, those interested can arrange other times to get together for lunch, dinner or around a campfire.

Lodging and Camping:
Cedars Resort on Benway is a nice place and they enjoy having muskie anglers on site. <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]
">** you do not have permission to see this link ** or 231-544-8069

Wooden shoe campground overlooks Ellsworth Lake at the north end of the lake. The ramp on Ellsworth is about ½ mile from the campground. <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]

I'm definitely interested in going, but will need to hop in the boat with someone else most likely. Is the outing only on Ellsworth lake or can we go anywhere on the chain? I probably wouldn't fish the other lakes, but just curious.

I'm still up in the air about it. If I were to go, I'd probably want to take off the Friday and head up there then.

Most definitely planning on going, and my week of vacation up there starts the next weekend, so hopefully I can take the boat up for this, and then leave it there.
Also to throw one out for the Ellsworth community, the golden nugget has great burgers, pizza, and beer, and the Front Porch has some really good cinnamon rolls for breakfast (along with other stuff of course, but the rolls are darn good)… Especially good after a night at the nugget!

I am a tentative maybe at this point. I would definantly like to make it but it would be an expensive trip for me and I would want to take at least one vacation day from work.

Out of curiosity what other fishing oppurtunities are available in the upper chain that time of year. Good Smallmouth fishing? Wallye? Panfish? Theres a good chance I would bring someone not that into the whole muskie thing and we would spend some time targeting other species. If anyone has some info that would be great.

Basically everything you mentioned. Smallies and largemouths are good targets with good size and numbers. Good panfishing if you can find the bigger fish like anywhere really. Lots of mid sized pike, and fair walleyes. Same is true for almost any of the 7 upper lakes.

The bigger lakes in the lower chain (Bellaire, Torch, Skeg, and Elk) have, in my opinion, the best smallmouth fishing in the state and June is the best time of the year to get the 20+ inchers with all the big females so hungry coming off the beds.

We have caught some big Largemouths in there including a 23 incher I caught on the upper in May. Wallys and Smallies are good in the chain as well.

The outing is anywhere on the chain.

From Ellsworth you can reach all of the lakes downstream to the dam at Bellaire. Getting from Ellsworth to St Calir requires something small that you can walk upstream.

Platt & I will more than likely be there. I still haven't fished the chain and have been planning to get there this year, hopefully more than just once.

It also helps to be partially insane and you better NOT be afraid of spiders…
anything over an eighty inch beam is gong to be real tough to get through there.

I wouldn't miss it for the world and we'll be hitting up shorts brewing after for dinner and some delicious brews.

I have to work in the evening but I'll be at the Ellsworth launch at the crack of dawn until 2p.m. hopefully that will be enough time to boat one.
