Okay guys heres the deal-
This is the text of the flyer that I handed out at the Traverse outdoor show and is being distributed around the area. We distributed about 100 of these at the show and I had a few people all me that were very interested in attending, Newbies and want to be converts. I had a very positive response overall. What I would like is for everyone who is on the fence to decide to come to the event and support the club. This is a chance for the MMA to make some inroads with the secretive Musky circles that exist in Northern Michigan. I am looking for two things on this post, Support and input.

What to expect at the outing- hopefully at least a handful of people not already associated with the club will show up. I am asking that all club members present wear a name tag (provided) that signify their membership in the MMA and that they be willing to act as sources of information and ambassadors for Muskies Inc.
Thanks
Kevin

Intermediate Lake Muskie Outing
May 20th, 2006 – Thurston Park (Tentative)

Begins at 9:00 AM (1:00 Lunch)

Novice and Expert are welcome. Bring a friend, or two, or three and see what it is all about! The fishing world is buzzing about musky fishing lately come and see why. You do not need to be a “Musky Fisherman” to attend this event. There will be many members of Muskies, Inc. Present to help you try and catch one of these magnificent fish. Come and learn why Muskies are so important to the ecosystem. Hear from regional Biologist Mark Tonello about the current stocking programs.

Would you like to fish but don’t have a boat or even equipment? There are a limited number of seats available on a first come first serve basis with members of the MMA. Contact me through the E-mail listed or at this phone number 231-883-8349. Just want to talk Muskies? Meet with us at lunch time and talk some strategy or location and learn about the club.

Meet Will Schultz member of the Gander Mountain Pro Staff. Will was also featured on the cover of the 2005 Michigan Fishing Guide.

Contact: Kevin Kimble 231-883-8349 or e-mail – ** you do not have permission to see this link **

Michigan Muskie Alliance is not just a fishing club, far from it. MMA has always called itself a conservation organization above all. Through cooperative projects MMA is making muskie fishing better in Michigan.
Iowa – Michigan Muskie Transfer: Each year since 2002 Michigan Muskie Alliance has sponsored a program in cooperation with the Iowa and Michigan DNR. Since 2002, this program has been responsible for stocking over 37,000 muskies in the state of Michigan.
Thornapple Lake Tracking Study: Central Michigan University, Michigan DNR, Michigan Muskie Alliance and sponsored this study that kicked off in 2004 and will continue through 2006. This study is important to determine spawning areas as well as migrations that may occur into the Thornapple River. Currently Thornapple Lake carries a 50" size limit.
Angler Diary: In 2006 Michigan Muskie Alliance started another cooperative program with the Michigan DNR. This Angler Diary program incorporates scale and genetic samples collected by MMA members.
Fish Fest: Fish Fest is put on each year at Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery. This event is directed at children and families and has allowed Michigan Muskie Alliance to educate thousands of Michigan residents about muskies.

Any info for campers? Should that go in the thread in the events area?

It is at Intermediate. We ran into some political issues with Long.

So what are we looking at for this event.

Any info on the lake, techniques etc. Deep, shallow, clear, dirty anything.
Where could we get a lake map in advance?

I'm going, but am expecting to be lost on a deep clear lake that is huge. Intimidated by new waters I guess. Especially with only one day to fish it.

That should help. The clarity is not quite as good as on the lower lakes like Elk. It is usually slightly stained and often mildly turbid. Good visibility to 6 feet on average. Good break structure as you can see on the map. It has a little of everything, deep, shallow etc… that time of year will probably mean just post-spawn fish. We should have enough boats to find a good pattern by lunchtime and hopefully get everyone on fish.

fish fast, look for active fish, post spawn maybe a chore… but can be done. Sharp breaklines into deeper water, creek mouths, flats, anywhere they will be in a post spawn pattern is my guess where to find them, a lot depends on temps in those deep clear lakes up there. I don't even go to skegemog or elk until july. So it will be fun to run and gun and see what is in the lake.
