When I was doing some background work for my response to the MDNRE muskie management plan, I found some information that I thought others might find interesting if they do not already know about it. There are a number of papers published in fishing journals that can be found using the "Google Scholar" search engine and the key word – muskellunge. Here are just a few that I got hold of:
"A program for successful muskellung management – a Minnesota success story."
"Characteristics of Ontario muskellunge fisheries based on volunteer angler diary information."
"Determining minimum ultimate size, setting size limits, and developing trophy standards and indices of comparable size for maintaining quality muskellunge populations and sport fisheries."
And there are a lot more, enough to provide plenty of reading material before the season opens.
