In the winter on Sanford Lk. you can only fish the west half of the lake in front on the park, because after the river current comes under the X-way bridge, it mixes up the water and the ice is very unsafe on the east side of the lake. I tried pike fishing there in the winter and couldn,t get into as deep of water as I wanted. Also I didn,t catch any. I don,t know of any public access on the north side of the of the bridge. The marina is closed down during the winter, so unless you know someone who lives on the lake, it s hard to get on. I also think this is why the locals keep the small muskies in the winter. Its hard to catch them.

This probably is too far for most people, but it is a confidence lake for me. I always do well in the winter on Fletchers Flood waters, been fishing there for years. The size of pike you catch are well above average, although the population isn't unbeleavable but is at least respectable. Just an Idea.

I'd like to hit Muskegon Lake at least once this winter. Great fishing for huge pike by the warm water discharge at the Cobb Plant. Need to wait for better ice though. It can be very tricky over there especially with the snow covered ice. I've been fishing there since I was 6 years old and have caught some really nice pike jigging glow spoons with minnow tails just off the bottom. Dave, give us a call and we can set something up mid January. My dad and brother will be out there before the ice is probably really safe enough for the average person that's safety minded. I'll keep ya updated on ice conditions. Anyone who want to go is welcome. Large Sweedish Pimples silver / glow generally the bait of choice with a fairly stiff ice rod / fast tip fopr action great. Hot lunch on the ice served at 1pm. Anyone for home-made chili dogs? Queenfisher Laugh

Muskegon sounds good pike, walleye or perch. Any time once the ice is safe.

Will I fished Reeds lake a few years back and pulled 6 pike out of the same hole. That was fun and also got a Bass 6 feet of water.

I just got back today from a fishery meeting in Grand Rapids (Fish & Wildlife Conference). One biologist working with surveys told me that Muskegon Lake produces the most fishing activity/opportunity per acre in the state. Last year our Michigan Anglers Assoc perch derby there was 21# pike. Yes, I'm bias to my home town lake.
