Duke – HELP
Sorry to be late to the party!
But nah you don't need no help man, you were CRUSHING it!!
I gotta say though, I think you guys are wrong about Firefighter. He definitely can say some inflammatory things (ha!), but if you notice it is always in response to some pretty dam foolish thing said by some muskie fisherman. Admit it- we are sometimes blinded by passion for the fish, and say things that DO NOT paint muskie fisherman in the best light. You know what I am talking about- you all have seen it and we probably have all been guilty of it at some point. This just happens to be something that really, really gets under Firefighter's skin and he will go off. I often agree with him- muskie anglers very often come across as terrible pee & moaners. (not in this current regulations thread though, which is great and hopefully its stays that way!). This is doing us NO good and I believe is actually holding us back from turning the muskie tide even more. But he is actually more reasonable, intelligent, and open minded than just about any of the spearing population that we typically see/hear.
I begrudgingly agree. I've followed his pike spearing threads and he is actually one of the better ones out there. He preaches and practices "selective harvest" of pike, and I completely agree with him on that. I've seen the other spearers give him crap before for letting some big female pike go instead of just blindly killing every big fish he sees.

Can anyone tell me how many fish a average muskie will eat in a day? Do they only eat every 2,3,4 days? What I'm getting at is the average pan fisherman can take 25 in a day, maybe more if he takes them home and comes back.
The simple answer is no, I don't think anyone could tell you.
So many factors are in play that there isn't a good answer. The available forage and water temp are the most significant. The larger the forage the less they eat. The colder the water the less they eat. Can they compete with the human take when it comes to panfish? No and they wouldn't want to considering panfish aren't going to be a preferred forage.
Some people are just unreal on that forum. It's almost as bad as LSC.net now… Now some other guy is spouting off on the new regs being applied to LSC….why can't some recognize that not all species are created alike and some like Muskie need special regs in place for the future of sport/trophy fishing in our state.
Will, stop trying to promote your guide business please! Lol!! Some guys just have no clue what and who you really are and what you've done for our waters. You just can't fix stupid….

There is no way that fisherman, two or three to the boat, on the water every day of the spawn, pulling panfish off their beds would have ANY negative impact. It's all because of the Muskies. [smilie=2c.gif]

The only thing I have ever seen that had anything remotely conclusive on this was the muskie diet survey you can find here: <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]
"><link_text text="[Permission to view this media is denied] … E_Diet.pdf">[Permission to view this media is denied]
It says they caught 1092 fish, out of 34 lakes, and 34.3% of the fish had something in their stomach… infer from that what you want I guess.

Was this a sarcastic statement?
I can sure smell the sarcasm…

That's the mind set of those over on that site. Catch and kill anything that bites, then piss and moan about the "fishing"

I know it finally died down over there, but I see there was a pertinent question asked and I don't know the answer 100% so I figured I wold let someone that knows for sure answer it. It was about people under 17 needing a tag. I know they don't need a license, so do they need a tag???
Interesting scenario.
But as I understand it harvest limits apply for all other fish before the license age, so a harvest tag SHOULD be required.
