So some of the recent discussion reminded me of this idea, I have a very specific way that I want to catch my fish as Duke and Will are discussing on the Ovid post. Does everyone feel that way or is it fish in the boat by any means necessary?

For me it is Casting, Natural reproduction lakes or rivers, old school lure preferred (nostalgia factor), Stained to clear, shield lake or U.P., 10 to 15 FOW, cabbage bed, see the strike. Doesnt have to be huge just in those conditions, I will take one anytime, anyway but in my mind that is where its at.

How about you guys??

PRETTY MUCH HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD ON EVERYTHING YOU SAID KEV EXCEPT NATURAL LAKES…AS I HAVE A HARD ENOUGH TIME WITH STOCKED LAKES.LOVE THE SPOTS THO..LIKE THE VARIETY OF LAKES TO ENCOUNTER…FEEL IT`S MORE OF A WIDE RANGE IN WISC.NORTWOODS THO…COFFEE COLORED TO CLEAR.AROUND HERE IT SEEMS TO BE A DIFFERENT STAIN…YOU EITHER HAVE GREAY LAKES CLEAR,TO BANKSON CLEAR,TO A THORNAPPLE/OVID SCUM.JUST HAVEN`T FIGURED THAT OUT BESIDES GOOD SUCCESS AND EGO BOOSTING IN STAINED LOTW WATERS.MY FAV..LIKE YOU SAID…10-15 EDGE…CLEAR..TO OVERCAST,SIZE DOESN`T MATTER…WISH IT WOULD…SEE THE DARKNESS OF THE EDGE WHERE THE CABBAGE DISAPPEARS…AND THEN THE FLASH….AND GAME ON!!!

GOOD POST… [smilie=bow.gif]

Once I catch my first one I'll post my favorite conditions, which will probably be the conditions I catch that fish on [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]

Not all of them, but this is how I want to catch "the one." Alone, Thunder in the background W SW, Calm before the storm, Sticky and humid…a rare late September storm fronts a comin….the ones that change summer to autumn (you know the type.) Anywhere north of here and the lake is surrounded with Pines and furs, not 5 bedroom 3 bath homes, puke..Alone on the lake, tent waiting for me on the shore. Alone

Clear water to a slight stain, but I want to see it….jerk bait or something I can manipulate // finesse. Ten FOW, Ten Feet in front of me….hard strike and witness the initial head shake as she goes deep. Hard fight, worried about losin her, but manage to get her in the net..a quick pic, and a strong return. All by myself.

I love catching them casting but also love the sound of a screaming drag when we get them trolling. To me it doesnt matter how we catch them but the excitment caused by catching one. When I watched my wife last year as she battled that 51 incher up north on a 7 foot glass trolling rod it was all good, know what I mean? Also for us with bad wrists and backs trolling is a break where can have a sandwich, a couple motrin and rest until that next casting session. Its the whole package for us. We love it all. My idea of how I want it is very close to adamminnick. Overcast day, surrounded by northwood pines, birch and poplar. No houses to take away from the moment…to remind you of where you are…or aren't. Clear to slight stain in the water with a nice mix of green cabbage and rock. An island or two near by. Eagle or osprey present. The call of a loon….god I love it. 9-12 feet of water. I have visited this place in my head time and time again. I have been to a few of these places in Northern Wisconsin, Upper penisula, Eagle lake Ontario.

It's funny but I will admit that I think about this most everyday. If I can't be in this environment then I can atleast read and think about it. [smilie=biggrin.gif]

You muskie fishermen are a bunch of unredeemable weirdos! 👿

Oh — sorry! Wrong kind of trolling…

I prefer casting, especially since I don't know how to troll (see above… Embarassed ). But casting seems to be more of a challenge to me, somehow.

I am heading to Eagle Lake and will be there from August 9-14th and I picked that time period for the topwater bite. I am dreaming of catching a monster on a topwater walk the dog bait and second place would go to a figure 8 at the boat.

Idealy it would be a Northwoods Lake. Rocks, Birch and Pine would dominate the scenery. Either dawn or dusk… and a big topwater swoosh! Something about a 20+ pound fish eating on top!!!
