I had one of those days fishing yesterday that made me wish I'd stayed home. First, I lost a $20 lure to a snag. Then, later got snagged again but with worse results. Even though I tried to be careful in where I put pressure on the rod, I ended up breaking 25 inches off my 8'6" Okuma.
It was a straight break with little or no fractures around the break site. For those who experienced this in the past, is the rod repairable? If so, can you recommend someone to do it? Last, if it's junk, do you know anyone who could salvage guides, handles and anything else of value? I don't like the thought of just putting it in the trash. Thanks for your help.

with a clean break, rod companies have little to no proof how/why it broke, and will usually warranty it without much of a fight. They don't like snag issues, but when it comes down to it, they should have a consistent hoop strength, and should break at an end if at all.
Sadly with graphite, you can not put a sleeve on the outside and epoxy it like you could with some old fiberglass rods.
As far as salvaging guides and handles, they are reusable, though the handle is near impossible to get off without damage, and the amount of time is hardly worth it in the long run…
