Does anybody use the 9" Grandma with the big lip (curved lip) for twitching. I normally shy away from these and use the ones with the straight smaller lip. Can the big lipped ones be twitched equally as effective? I always asumed that that they were not designed for that, but I would like to get down a little deeper without using a triple d or depth raider…say like 5-7 feet. Any suggestions?
I have had terrific results making 7.5" Grandmas into suspendos. All I do is drill a hole, add the proper amount of water, epoxy over the hole, and then paint 3-5 coats of bright red nail polish over the hole. Some baits require that I wind some lead thread around the shank of the rear hook for balance. That lead thread gets well painted with nail polish, too.
You can twitch these guys like mad, then stall (keeping a tight line), and the baits will just sit there in a horizontal position. I boated one of my best (44") not just twitching, but counting to 10 befor I hit it again all the way back to the boat. At one point the bait was about 12'out, just sitting there in gin-clear water and my total newbie bro glanced over and looked just as the 44 swam up from below and hammered the grannie. It was hard to be that patient, counting that long, but I was using the "Fat girls only dance slow." theory.

I use them for twitching as well. I got my first one this year twitching one. Most of the time, I'll crank it down a couple turns, then twitch it with my rod tip up. I even went as far as to bend one of the lips on my 10" Jake to look more like the Grandma lip. It has a WILD action when twitched now!
Yep, the best way for me has been to use stove burner and gently heat the lip.
Bends do some cool stuff but so do cuts. The problem with cuts is that you can't bend them back…
WARNING – Keep in mind, any bending or cutting will/could ruin the lure for trolling.
As far as weighting…
Weighting with a liquid (oil or water) can do weird things to the bait because the weight shifts.
Drill a couple holes one to fill at the balance point and one to vent near the back. Fill with Great Stuff. Once that dries(over night) you can drill out the GS and add weight as needed then seal w/ epoxy (I still do this step even though the GS is waterproof).

What do you add as weight? lead BBs?

Round splitshot or pencil lead.
