Are there any members willing to help man the booth this year if we get one? The dates are March 21st – 24th. This is a great chance for educating the general public. There were a couple significant muskie events this past year. New State Record, new regulations. There may be a lot of people who want to learn more!

I'll definitely be there, but not sure of my work schedule yet. There was decent interest last year so it would be good to have a booth again. I'm not sure if I'd put Will's replica up again as lots of people touched it even though we had signs telling them not to.

This is a great chance to share info with people so I'd highly recommend volunteering if available. A lot of us bitch and moan about other fishermen being idiots when it comes to musky facts, but then do nothing about it to inform them. It's time to get out from behind the keyboard and into the booth to help inform the public about these fish!

Im down for helping. Personally I think you absolutely have to have a replica at the booth, that was the reason a lot of people stopped and started talking last year. It is a conversation starter. Plus I think having a well done replica at the booth helps show people you don't need to kill the fish to have a mount made.

This definitely is true, I just hate seeing his huge fish poked and prodded even when we tell the people not to touch it. Maybe we get a replica inside a glass case or something? I also think having a running DVD of members' fish pics would be cool.

A sign with the new regs and how they benefit our fishery would be good something that will get people to ask us questions will lead to them being better educated. Im in for probably Saturday.

I can help out Saturday morning or Friday evening and would love to. I usually attend this show every year as it is, might as well help out.

I agree with both of you guys. I was going to bring my replica in addition to, or instead of Wills. Mine is a barred strain, so having one of each may be cool.

I have a replica I can lend for this! It is used to being poked and prodded and much worse. Actually, the things are just about indestructible and I don't worry about it at all. I take mine to a youth outdoors show every year and I let every kid pick it up and take a picture with it who wants to. Its a hoot! and GREAT P.R. by the way!! Worst thing that has happened was a tip of a tail fin cracked. Super glue and good as new. Make it look more real anyway

The rest of the story is that it really was a gift/prize from MMA and Joe Fittante, so I feel compelled to share it!!

I have a stand for it to sit on a table right at kid eye-level too. I will bring it to the meeting tonight. USE IT!!

What are you "selling" at the booth? Replicas?

I'm all for having an attention getter in the booth but as busy as the GR show gets the booth also needs to be wide open so people can walk in and talk. I have some pet peeves after working so many shows for many different people/manufacturers:
– no tables unless absolutely needed
– no chairs (unless you're selling chairs of course) if you're sitting in a booth people just walk by because they aren't greeted (a simple hello goes a long way).
– absolutely no table across the front of the booth unless you need to keep people out (guns for example). Ever notice how easy it is to walk by a booth with a table across the front, or too much clutter (tables, chairs, etc.) to step in and see what's going on?

This is another angle for attention getter…

3 replicas would probably be too many as we didn't have much room last year with 1 replica. We also need our booth backdrop to be open so people can go up to it and look at the pictures, the marked state map, and all the info we have on there.

Yes I get that but why? Does the replica(s) make people stop and learn or does it make them stop and talk about the replica, and tell the story of their uncles, employee whose brother caught a 72"er?

With the new regs this year every single person that walks by the booth should be handed a piece of paper with information about the new regs. This does two things:
1. it makes the people in the booth talk to every person
2. it puts something in the hand of every person about the new regs (the b-side should have general muskie info like "why release").

I would lean toward stuff like this to get people interested…

I think we could hang a photo frame on the back wall or on one of the columns that could run video too. If they want to see the video they need to walk all the way into the booth. Would need to pay for power in the booth but that's pretty cheap.

I wonder if there is a way to use the steel poles in the back of the booth that hold up the curtains to hang a replica from. I do like Duke's thinking though, letting kids get their picture taken with one. I'm all for using any means possible if there is a chance of spreading the "muskie bug" to newbies.
