Do you tip your guide when going on a trip?

I always have, the amount is up to you but I tip based on how hard the guide/guides worked and knowledge shared. If it was a slow or bad day and you still had fun tip well.

I do, but I was a firstmate on a walleye charterboat in the late 80's. My tips are not always based on how many fish caught but how I was treated and how hard they worked to put me on fish.

Absolutely. I'm not in anyway picking on ya but I'm shocked at how many times I see or hear this question. It's not different than any other service industry. The only way I wouldn't tip a guide is if he was horrible, out to fish for himself and just a bad careless guy. I've never had a bad experience being guided so I always tip 20% on the overall cost of trip. I fish guided for Tarpon down in Florida 4-5 times a year and 1 day cost $600 so I automatically plan on spending $720 each day I hire a guide. To me it's a "respect" thing and proper to always tip. Tips also go a long way…pay off later. My Tarpon guide had a cancellation and was scrambling to find somebody to fill in. Needless to say in going back down being guided for half to original cost of trip. Tips can help get well deserved, hard working guys a little ahead at the end of a season. Always tip….

I definitely tip and tip pretty well. Like detroithardcore said, I usually tip 20%+ but it does depend on how good the guide is. If the guide is very friendly and sharing with information then I tip well, even if I don't catch a fish that day. I've been guided a good amount and pretty sure most guides would rather get nothing than a $10-20 tip as it is almost insulting to them. Obviously it is up to you, but %20+ is what I usually do.
And FYI, you might want to resize your profile picture as it takes up half your post lol.

Exactly what he said. I know guide costs can get pretty high so I try to help out as much as I can and have been rewarded from it through discounted trips, baits, information, etc.
